Perhaps you have been uploading them to the DakkaDakka server instead of hotlinking images you find or host elsewhere???

Find an image RC it and select copy image location. Paste that into your post and then highlight. After highlighting press the image button on the menu above the text box. It should provide code to present your image directly at that point.

Or you can just type [img][/ -img] (the - is added so you can see the code)
Then paste the location of the pic between the ][ part of the code.

You can't link directly from you computer. You will have to host somewhere first, Deviant art is pretty good, as is Flickr if you have a Yahoo account. Flickr limits the size of your images by quite a bit, but anything without text should be just fine.

You have linked to the page, not the pic.

I tried to go directly to the web page and it said that the page was not available.

You did the code correctly.

I suggest:
1: Do a google image search for whatever you want.
2: Click on the thumbnail you want.
3: Click on the thumbnail at the top of the page you have been taken to (will take you to a web page with only the pic)
4: The web address is the adress for the pic.
5: Copy and paste to dakka (remember don't attach).
6: Add the img code.
7: Submit the post
8: ????
9: PROFIT!
