So i'm planning on writing up a bit of home made fluff for my home-brewed chapter, and finally putting it into motion know that knight titans, one of my favorite pieces of background fluff, might be getting a book in march. My idea is that my chapter, the Knights of the Lion, rescued a knightworld from an Orc invasion and the household pledged their support for them for future campaigns.
1st question: is this possible? can there be allies like that between two different factions?
2nd question: how would an unforgiven chapter be able to hold onto allies like this if they need to go fallen hunting? could they give a warning in advance?

1) There's precedent for that level of cooperation in the IoM, but it is the exception rather than the rule.
2) Short answer is they wouldn't. There are no instances of the Unforgiven ever forming this type of alliance because it would involve sharing 'something' about the Fallen. To the IoM the Fallen are merely CSMs, only the Unforgiven (and a few others) are aware that there is any kind of differentiation.
If your Chapter was fleet based you may have an angle there, the Unforgiven are suspected of having several STCs that produce their plasma weaponry and other assorted bits of non-Codex equipment. If your Chapter had the production capabilities to 'adopt' the Knights then that might work.

Knight household stumbles across the story of the Fallen in the defence of their world by a chaos warband. Your chapter turns up to purge them all, but something calamatous befalls them all (tyranids or orks or necrons, take your pic). Shared adversity means the chapter master comes to trust the head of the household and decides not to liquidate them all. Bam background sorted

There we go! =D that's something I can get behind.
A little something I should have put in the opening post: my chapter is a successor to the Angels of absolution, so they think of themselves as "absolved"
Maybe they worked something out between themselves and the Household, being forgiven and all?

You could even have it as a single generational thing. Only the leader of the Knights ever really knew anything and to keep honour with the Chapter he helped cover it up within his household and will keep the secret to the grave. The Chapter Master likes the cut of his jib and promises not go nuke the household even more into the stone age in return for fealty.
