Subject: Shooty Assault Squads?

As the title suggests, why isn't there an option for shooty Assault Squads?
Fluff-wise it would be tactically logical to have an extremely mobile ranged squad that can re-locate to deal with threats/ assist flanks, and be able to extract themselves from un-favourable circumstances.
In game, they'd still be fast attack and un-able to capture objectives but provide mobile ranged fire support for chapters that are mobility/ flanking based.
In an army that favours tactical flexibility, why don't these exist?

GK Interceptors fit that role I suppose, but you're right in that there aren't any shooty Jump Packers. I guess that's the role Bikers fill though.

I think you're thinking of Warp Spiders. Striking Scorpions are the ones with Infiltrate and special Chainswords.

Dark Eldar Scourges fill this role completely. Jump troops with support weapons. The Eldar Corsair unit from IA11 can also take 2 heavy and 2 special weapons and be fitted with jetpacks, so pretty shooty. Tau stealthsuits and Crisis suits also cover this role.
In DoW2 you could convert the Marine assault squad into ranged weapon specialists, and I do think its a shame you can't do that in-game.

OP was referring to just Space Marines. Though I admit, I nearly mentioned AS Seraphim. But if you want Marines to have such an option, just ally in one of the above.

You can take shooty BA assault marines for an arm and a leg. It costs so much because unlike the assault marines of other dexes we need 10men to take the extra special weapon.

I always wanted to see Nurgle Ogyrn Space Marine Bikers in Centurion armor... They'd be the size if a Rhino, probably around 4 Wounds, T9, 2+ armor, an ungodly amount of forepower and strength, Shrouded, Jink, really really fast...

Yeh thats not bad admittedly. I wasnt talking about melta though as I dont consider effective 6" range as shooty. I meant plasma guns, and paying 220pts for 4 rapidfire range plasma shots which deny assault is terrible.

I agree, Grey knight intercepters do fill that role and bikes arent too bad either.
Jump pack guys... I actually think they should carry more than pistals. They should carry the same kit as normal marines plus the additional hand weapon. i also feel they shouldnt be so limited on which special weapon to take.
Hmmmm... Maybe an option to upgrade a sarge in an assault squad to be a sternguard? That way, you wouldnt have a whole squad of them in jump packs. Just one to lead them and boost their firepower?

Vanguard can take one or two plasma/grav pistols paired with their bolt pistol. The gunfighter rule means they can jump around firing both at once.
Those are very expensive though. I'd be more inclined to ally Death Company.
