Hello all,
I am building 40K SM Ship not BFG, but current T-Hawk, Storm Raven looks.
.
Because I am Frugal (some would say cheap, lol) I want to use the Ship in several ways, like my Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon (Luxury car, Sportscar, SUV, and Gas saver all in one).

The ship will be sectional/modular, it will be a small SM Assault Craft, as well as being able to be taken apart to use as terrain, walled gun emplacements, and have an interior for future smaller Skirmish games.
.
Turrets and Bridge will be mounted on a 12" x 12" flat deck bases, so they can be removed and used as separate pieces of terrain.
The interior rectangle decks will be removable and will line up in different patterns; T, S, L, etc...
The sides; engines, and gun batteries will be removeable to be used as walls.
No larger than a 4' x 6' table.
.
Here is a cool link, but the scale is 1/285 (tiny) http://store.gcmshop.com/c/132/ships.
.
The beginning ideas;
Asymmetrical was a thought? But this one had no landing/launch bays. I want it to have 2-4 landers, and 4-7 drop pods.

.
Mech Warrior Leopard very close, but more 40K looking;

.
Scribbles with ideas to make it modular, sides can be removed, as well as top, as well as interior. I struggled with the front launch, but still may keep it for the aggressive look.;

.
Scribble underside. Note; a T-Hawk type vehicle will attach to the underside.

.
T-Hawk type vehicles;

.
My S-tork from several years ago;

.
Now for interiors for size realism. Note; I will be using an inexpensive shelf unit from WalMart ($20) for the decks (it is in white a few images down)
Smaller Firefly/Serenity size; side launch bays at the rear, I like this one.

.
Larger with an entire lower deck hangar, I also like this one.

.
Products for the top and sides of ship, remember modular, so can also make a walled fortress;

.
Initial layout to see if vision is on track;

.
Second layout for size and more vision. Note; not sure about the SM statue, but was a good stand in for bridge? The landers are external, then lowered inside, or SM have suits and can just board them in Spaaaaace.
All the ammo racks will become weapon/missile batteries

.
It has been extra cold in my area, but here is the third layout. Note; Fortress as bridge, engines behind. it will be "T" shaped, shelves will be decks, two rear side launch bays for the landers, drop pods out the bottom,.

.
My Game Table is 4' x 6'

.
Any ideas, comments, etc. let me know, thanks!
.

To me, it's just too much. I mean hey, if you're determined to do it go right ahead, but in my mind it's right up there with the entire SM chapter projects you see from time to time. My hat's off to you for your ambition.

Great idea! It would make one incredibly badass tabletop scenario -- kind of like the Starcraft maps that are on gigantic space hulks.

You mean like this? My Chapter...

.
The overall ship will not be one model, it will just be separate side walls, like making a table full of terrain, the Interior will be done last...

Yep, most likely the final shape, still debating on frontal launch bay, I was thinking maybe a third lower deck with an entrance like Firefly/Serenity that way it would have more height though and I still want it to be gameable...

Thanks, it has been unusually cold in my area, but it is due to warm up, so I will get out to the garage and work on it. Brought the plastic kits inside,
.
Also have the Deadzone Game (kickstarter) from mantic, will use the plastic terrain tiles, which are squares, for the interiors and to give texture to the outside hull...

Brought stuff inside, warmer in here... sanding, filing, top deck alternative; staggereg guns instead of landing pad? thoughts?
.
no, the "Bangside Cannon" will not be part of the ship, lol...

.

.
Thoughts compared to previous top deck landing pads?

I like the open landing pads in the middle more. Or, if you do put the turrets there include other areas with open spaces like on the sides of the gun. It'll have more utility if there are areas to display your force, or fight over. Though I do like the way the staggered guns look.

Thanks for the input. If I make top center deck have staggered guns like a regular battleship, I would have to put the hangars on the sides?

This is extraordinary! Looking forward to seeing your progress, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, for now have been using cardboard "deck plan" layouts... waiting for some 3D stuff to arrive in the mail.

I am using Future Armada Deck Plans for scale; http://www.wargamevault.com/browse.php?keywords=future+armada&x=0&y=0&author=&artist=&pfrom=&pto=
.
What interiors did you order?
.
I am using a cheap $20 shelf set (in white in images) for decks.
.
I was thinking of this for interior down the road; http://www.nalsworkshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=265

Ahh, I see. I think the last photo is looking all right

I've never seen anything like the Future Armada designs. Very cool stuff! Interior pieces look great too.

Cool, side launch bays/hangars it is, battleship gun decks, thanks!.
.
The future armada stuff was inexpensive (CHEAP) for interior maps, and since it is pdf, can be enlarged/reduced to accommodate other games (Space Hulk, Heroclix, RPG, etc.) so, since I am frugal, lol...

I made some of my own, for starters, but then I also got the Colony 19 stuff from DriveThruRPG http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/92827/Colony-19---starter-set-%2828mm%29 and the Space Frontier Ship Interior which has color papercraft consoles, doors, etc.

You can see it "in action" on my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/hdbizblog/12206509706/sizes/m/in/photostream/

That is great! The Future Armada stuff is similar, but yours is much cleaner, more detail...

The hallway tile in the center of the pic is mostly white, the printer I was using was running out of toner! The larger rooms in the corners were printed at a commercial shop.

Warmed up in my area, so to work.
Chuck Norris said the Octagon turret look is the best, so;

I remover the asymmetrical side bit from main gun.

Main gun rear, I will fill with plastic card

Built front turrets 1 & 2, will fill gaps with plastic card

Staggered gun look chosen;

Parts to cut for rear side turrets 1 & 2

and here;

Built rear side Turrets, need to fill gaps at rear, the walkways will line up on the main gun structure, and the rear engine structure.

and at top

The gun emplacements look good... this is going to be huge! Anytime you start out describing something as "no larger than a 4' x 6' table"... Whoa

lol, yep, I want to be able to use it all for terrain as well, so all the turrets will be mounted on 12" x12" square base that will be removable from the main hull
