So I've been entertaining the idea of starting a Minotaurs army and I would like my models to reflect the fact that they have some of the Imperium's finest gear. Naturally this includes quite a few sets of Errant pattern power armour, thing is there doesn't seem to be a reliable way of getting a decent amount of suits. More than anything it's the snazzy collars that I would like to get, so if there are non GW or Forgeworld equivalents out there I'd give it a shot. Grey Knights are an option but I think they'd all need new arms to properly hold Bolters and the like (their particular heraldry seems easy enough to remove though).

Also in addition, if any other Minotaurs players have had similar problems modeling their high end gear, is there anything you did to get around that? Additionally any modelling tips in general you used to showcase their superb equipment and/or particular aesthetic theme?

Thanks for any suggestions.

P.S. Should this be in the Painting & Modelling sub forum or is it fine here?

With some luck, you can stumble onto the MK8 gorgets on sites that sell individual bitz.

But it won't be easy to get enough for an army.

Personally, I'd recomment scratchbuilding it. As far as I know the only difference in MkVIII armour is the gorget, which should be relatively easy to to with plasticard. As for hunting for enough Errant chestplates for a whole army, that would take a considerable amount of time.

Edit: As for the Grey Knight idea, I doubt you'd need any conversion to hold Boltguns etc since they're already modelled to be able to hold Psycannons and Incinerators, so a Boltgun should fit just fine.

You can get true Mk8 from the new Tactical Marine sprue. Just not the fancy arms/legs if you need to go that far. FW MkIV armor has the correct arms but that's expensive and I don't know if you want to go that route. I don't think anyone does the legs.

So to respond to some of the stuff posted:

I definitely don't plan on going Mk 8 for the whole army that would be incredibly hard, but having more than your average chapter would hone in on the Minotaurs' look a bit more I think.

I was considering plasticard, just I've never used it before, but I can't imagine it'd be too difficult to figure out especially if I just go for the gorgets.

As for the Grey Knights, looking at the sprues it seems like a lot of the arms end in clenched fists since most of them hold 2 handed swords; that might make it hard to fit in bolters without getting other arms. Of course if someone knows an easy method of using GK in a similar situation I'm all ears.

Lastly, I don't mind not having access to all the other bits of the Errant armour, its really just the collar I care about since I think that's the most iconic bit IMO. Also as far as Mk IV goes would a few Maximus helmets fit the Minotaurs or is that unfluffy?

Anyway, thanks for all the help so far.

Don't use plasticard for the gorgets. Get some thin plastic pipe. Splitting it in to 4 or 5 even pieces so as to get the right curve. Otherwise you'll be trying to get the perfect curve on all that armor by bending plasticard sheets.

The above idea about the plastic pipe seems like the best bet, honestly.

I've only ever SEEN two models in Mk 8 armor. One came off the new Sternguard sprue, and one was an old Veteran model I found in a box of secondhand marines.

Why would you necro this from the beginning of the year.

Also Mk8 are most of the basic SM legs in the plastic kit.

1) Because it has relevant information that I do not need to repost.
2) Mk.8 armor legs have a ball joint in the leg as seen below.
