Quick question my friend has stated that if he has a 5 template weapons and one longer range weapon he can extend the range of the flamer hits to encompass up to the maximum range of his one other weapon, annoyingly because of the last item on the FAQ (States any hits) and the first paragraph of page 16. However this seems rather absurd and an oversight of the gw team example below

5 wraith guard and 1 Autarch come up to my horde of thirty boys his flamers score a total of 15 hits and his Autarch has a avenger shrunken catapult and also scores a hit by his theory he can kill a total of 17 orks whilst only five were in range of the flamers

Yep.

As a Salamanders player, I love using this. Allocate armor penetrating wounds to the guys out in front, and then put the flamer wounds on the guys way in back, who might otherwise have gotten a cover save. Good times.

However, models still can't have a flamer wound allocated to them if the flamer-bearer can't draw LOS to them. There's a little bit of silliness that's benefiting the other side of the coin.

Orks also make use of this alot.
Stick a Mek in your Burna squads with a decent ranged weapon.

Wounds can extend as far as the longest shooty range in the attacking unit.

I hope that they correct this in 6.5 seems stupid, I wouldn't use it myself seems to exploit the rules a bit but oh well will just have to make sure I kill them before they get to shoot
