Proxies are great, as a brand new warboss with only a few sets of models, proxies is the way to go, the issue i am having is with my HQ,

I was able to get a AoBR warboss for only 8$ (which i think is really good)
anyway i have a pretty tight budget and i want to use this warboss as a proxie for all da infantry Hq's but my main opponent keeps on saying no that it is against principals he says something along the line "Why dont we just uses pieces of papers and write there names on it"
sigh hes really annoying when it comes to this so what im asking is for a indisputable argument to get him to believe in proxies

(I might just go get a different opponent)

Ah, I see you have run into the great Mephiston, Lord of Cheese! Not to worry, that block of chedder can be tied up easily with 30 boyz, can get his ass handed to him in a match with Ghazzy, and can be squigified with Zogwort. How satisfiying would that be? ....Squigfiston, Lord of gak...

With a completely straight face, take him upon his offer and use pieces of paper .

Part of the joy of the game is seeing two well painted armies face off against each other. When you run into too many proxies, counts-as, empty bases, etc, it takes away some of that fun.

Now when people are getting into the game, or trying out new things, I can understand and forgive quite a bit. Your opponent might want to loosen up a bit. But then a warboss doesn’t resemble a space marine, so I can see where he might get irritated.

I meant the Ork Hq's that are on foot (Big meks, warboss, weirdboy, and thraka) and only the one proxy yet he still is moaning...

Complaining about using one HQ model as another is a bit pedantic. Unless of course you have several of the same model and they are representing different things in the same game. Then it is confusing and your opponent has the right to grump. Also it would be off to wait untilmyou see what his army has in it before deciding what it represents in a particular game.

Make quick card/ paper/cocktail stick, toothpaste tube top sag, kff, funny hat and get a toy robot for ghaz.
Paint them quickly.
Blue tac them to your existing warboss as required.
It'll make things far clearer.
It'd be 20mins work and you'll both feel better about the situation.

You got a tight budget? Then say its proxies or no game, because without proxies you dont have an army. Or if its so important ask him to fund your models so he can have a better time (because it clearly doesnt bother you).

But the better solution is just to find a more casual and understanding person to play with. This hobby has alot of hugely anal elitists (at least on the internet) so be prepared to pack up and move on to a better opponent. just explain you love the game but dont have the cash to play fully yet and most people will sympathize. You have models already so it shows that you are willing to put what money you have into the game.

One day you will have money and it wont be a problem then you can be kind to the person that was in your situation.

I mean seriously his complaining is doing nothing to fix the situation, unless he wants to play really small games with you.

Also your models look awesome, so you still paint and so on (judging by those awesome orks and larry ) so a few proxies should not be a problem at all.

Well, if your proxy is reasonable (a one off thing in the army, or at least easily identifiable) then I wouldn't see a problem for a while if you're starting up.

Granted, I'd also expect a modicum of effort to build/trade/buy/create a suitable model for something you continually proxy. Give and take. Personally, I find the real joy of wargaming to be two painted armies facing off on a great table.

I'd check out Ebay, the swap shop here, and Bartertown for cheap deals on used stuff. Bought much of my Mordian IG for a fraction of the retail price that way.

Pedantic and off topic, but technically 1/1 is still a fraction as is 3/2

Took me a good minute to figure out what you were trying to say. Too early for math.

Fine then, half.

Otherwise my infantry would have cost me a grand...silly GW

i agree, take him up on writting on pieces of paper.
Of course, you could also start converting. Local gamers will always have extra bits and gubbins for you to get in trade or give. heck, root through the trash and tools/parts and you'll find washers and such. Convert the models to be what you want them. This is really easy to do for orks and chaos.

I'm all for proxying, especially if you want to try out a unit before shelling out the full price for a single minauture, especially if you are thinking about running Ghazkull. He is not cheap. I use the HQ proxies every now and then using the AOBR warboss to simulate either a big mek w/ kff or shokk attack gun.

However, if you constantly use the warboss as a proxy for something else, then I would agree that it is time to make the change. Because doing to test it out a few times is fine, but after a few games I think it's time to get the real model. or, like was mentioned, conversion. Because there is nothing more orky than a converted model.
