OK, I'm as disappointed as most about Warhammer: Visions, but this is not a bashing thread. I have a legit idea and think W:V is actually the perfect platform to do it.

This idea is catered to the long beards, but I think it's an excellent one none the less.

What if GW were to do a retro edition (or 2, or 3) of Warhammer: Visions? One that showcased all manner of older photos from the 2nd edition, 3rd edition books?

If you like the idea please mail/email GW and request it. Perhaps if enough people ask they'll actually do it.

I think GW would be very pleased to have an additional vein of old photos to mine, and it would be nice for players. Whether they kept the repro materials from that long ago is another matter.

IMO WH Vizsh would be a lot better if they made the pages larger so you could see the photos well. Also, fewer pages and make it saddle stitched instead of perfect bound, to reduce the problem of the gutter.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I think this is a good idea but if GW are even half as cynical as the haterz would suggest then GW is to going to showcase material they don't sell anymore at the cost of current ranges.

Retro could work, I also think a large showcase of readers models could be interesting, from individual projects to armies, a bit like the Flickr pool they use on the website in print form

In fact they could even focus on new releases in a contest style (which I think was done with the dark elf hydra)

I would love the hell out of some books of either old photos from back in the day, or even new photos with the old models they still have in the cabinets at Warhammer World. I'd buy it, but I don't know how many issues they could really print like that. GW is also pretty hesitant to show things from the Goblin Green base days, which I can't really blame them for as it doesn't mesh with the aesthetic they're currently trying to sell exactly.

This is certainly a good idea, and would certainly be a good - well, better - read. However, I highly doubt that GW would publish photos in WV of models they no longer sell...

GW won't showcase anything they don't make anymore. The goal of Visions is not to enjoy the hobby or get you interested in it, it's to get you to buy a book each month.

2,700pts
2,000pts

Yup, think this is it.

Plus, they would then have to employee a 2nd person to work on the magazine, to go down to the archives and find the old photos.

I have a couple of the old Miniatures books and they're a great inspiration, lovely older models. But I just don't see GW showcasing anything they don't sell, and have no intention of making available again. What they publish now is to push new product, they don't really go much beyond that. If Warhammer Visions was chock full of old miniature lines I would be right on it, but it isn't. And pages of the same recent models from several angles doesn't do it for me.

I agree that GW doesn't care to do anything more than force their current wares down our throats, but one can hope. Perhaps the large drop and steady decline of their stock may lead to some change. I have my fingers crossed.

The more I think about the WV platform and what WV could be the more potential I think it has. It's just a matter of, will GW actually realize that potential.

A few more thoughts I had were: artwork, game tables from Warhammer World and others.

They could feature real armies painted by real players with real army lists... I know radical.

But then people will complain that they can see (have seen) those same armies online months ago, with more pics, in better detail, and GW should just work on original content...

For £7 you could just buy a years worth of old white dwarf magazines. Those things are literally worth nothing these days and people often give away or sell huge stacks of them.

Absolutely!

And, you would then benefit from the reason that the magazine was so popular and is still so fondly thought of; not only did it contain words, but well written articles and content that someone had taken the time to sit down and compose.

There's no doubt that the WV platform has potential. It could and should be great. There's a ton of fantastic stuff from back in the day which I'd love to see again. They could quite easily show old models from then in a progression sense - how they & armies change over the years to arrive at current designs.

Alas though, I fear we're stuck with the kind of thing that they've done in Edition 1 and that really is a shame.

I won't say I've found them that cheap, but for a couple bucks an issue I've been picking up tons of old White Dwarfs on eBay. It used to be a really great read!

Oooh..Maybe Warhammer Visions Episode 2 can be the LEMARTES edition.

Lets get some old photos of these guys.

Maybe throw in some old Blanche art and WOW what an awesome book this would be, with so many stellar old models

Considering I break out my 2nd edition 'Eavy Metal painting guide weekly, I know that issue would get a lot of use from me!

Seeing as these 'word' things are superfluous to a magazine, and the fanbase can't honestly be expected to read sentences, I thought I would put my reaction to Visions in a kind of chronological story-board, and easy to understand celebrity picture post.

Spoiler:
