And I have gotten royally pissed off about the railway construction. Look, I understand that you want your tunnels to look nice and clean, but did you have to block off every single side passage? Even that weird 4-way portal was closed off!

And in case you cannot read my sheer rage through this post, let me make this clear.

I will tear that place apart until I find the side passage. All your work, making it nice and even? Yeah, that's just gonna end up making everything look terrible. And just for spite, I'm going to keep the Netherwrack, so you're gonna need to mine some more if you ever want to fix it.

Just a bit of advice, that will probably get you banned. If you have a beef with how something is laid out, take it up with the admin and the creator, don't decide to just do something about it; that's the high speed fast-track to Bansville, stopping only at Bansville.

Yup. Sorry about all the vitriol. It's just something about the Nether. Bad memories? I remember, the reason I went to the Dakka MP server was because of some bastards on my prior one that set up a Nether trap that dumped me in the middle of the Nether, naked. I was burned to death in a pit of lava that was below a piston trap the portal opened into. I was just exploring, then all of a sudden- BAM! Lost all my iron stuff, some ores, etc. etc, and wasn't able to get out, because everybody had their portals locked away behind "You don't have permission to use that" protection mods.


And just for the record, I didn't actually break anything other than some Netherwrack. Didn't touch the railway or the stations, just dug around them trying to find the portal.


Oh, and @ Midas/Bishop/Mumraa/ whoever it was that dug those tunnels in the first place, well, the tunnels were very useful. I would have done that all myself (if I could ever figure out the whole Portal system) or just done an overland road, but the portal there was conveniently placed, and I didn't touch a thing, thinking whoever built it had it there for a reason. It was appreciated while it was around, and now I just hope I'll be able to get it to link up with the Lake portal properly again.

Is it just me or are there fewer and fewer of us on at a time, this is the 3rd tome in a week I've logged on and been completely alone, which is strange, even this time of night/morning.

I've noticed it over the last few days and chalked it up to father's day.

Delete the folder and download a fresh copy, it takes 5 seconds.

EDIT: spelling

Don't even need to delete too much. If you have the minecraft.exe you use to launch it, you can delete everything else and the update feature will repair it first time you connect.

Be sure to copy saves first, though likely you'll only have to replace the minecraft.jar.

I've noticed that too. day one of the castle construction, there were at least 5 builders on.
day two, just me.
I've put it down to sheer coincidence followed by a chain reaction- a bunch of people happen to have stuff happening outside of minecraft and others don't bother to go on cos it's lonely.

Don't forget time zones (although we're heading towards a 50/50 split, a good portion of the players are in the UK and you posted that at 5am UK time). There are also the school/college/summer holidays (people can play during the day) vs people who have jobs and can only play in the evenings. Now that the holidays are ending, people's playing times may be more synchronised and the numbers may pick up again.

I know the time zone bit, I had a girlfriend that lived in Newcastle, so I can do nifty things most Americans can't, like convert the time to you guys automatically. Used to be able to convert dollars to Euros and Pounds too.

But yeah, on-topic, any spiffy projects going on? I lost my house and I'm just too lazy to walk all the way back out there for nothing.

well there's the castle defence thing, but it only really needs beds, swords, soup and someone with a diamond pick, so that could be done by two people in an hour or two, so it's basically finished.
there's the manor which is a long-term project. I hope it will be done by the end of this year, though at the rate of construction it's at at the moment it looks unlikely. For that we need wool, wood and for professor doctor warthog to mark out the walls of each room and label them so I can get to interior designing.

Shrike, get him to send me a copy of the plans or something, I'll get the walls done.

Nah we've sorted it. I'm gonna do the lounge and dining room this evening/afternoon, and after that he'll mark out areas. You go and build the lab and the castle defence thing or whatever you want, really ^^

There is so much lag today.
Did anyone else see that? It is so bad that it is unplayable.
Over two minuites of text lag at one point.

Is it the server or just me?

Well I just keep timing out, also I lost all my stuff after I got spawned in a lava pool for some reason. I asked Dark and he said he'd look into it.

I managed to log on, it took ages to load the terrain. Then the text I was writing was lagging several minuites behind.

Apparently there a group who manages to get 200 people on a minecraft server at once. I think its called "Lord of the Craft"

Server is sufferring sustained extreme lag. Possibly due to maintenance or backups. I've taken it offline to prevent people lag-dieing. I'll check with Lego when I can to find out if it's anything our side.

I somehow managed to spawn inside my mob grinder (mondo pattern). Its odd seeing as its complete sealed.

Starting the server again now. web2.dakkadakka had a slow connection which is now resolved.

i am looking forward to having a few hours to lay out the plans for my sand lair and battle spiders with my stack of cactus.

For anyone who's interested, I'm building a speedball arena behind the castle defense. Far enough away that they wont mesh, but close enough to use both for convenience. This will be a bow only arena, no melee. If anyone wants to help out I'm gonna need arrows and cobble once I'm done leveling the terrain (80x100).

EDIT:Nothing to see here...
