Hey all,
I usually don't like OSL on table top miniatures. It looks good in dioramas, but on the table top it just looks odd to me because the model is lit but the surroundings aren't.
But, I've never tried it before, and since I'm building a Valkyrie, I thought this would be a good time to try it out since you can OSL the interior and cockpit without it looking overly strange.
I went for a night time theme, so Instead of painting the model with colours and then OSL-ing it, I just did the model black with a grey zenithal highlight (the aim was to look like moonlight) and then OSL'd with green.
What do you think?

Thanks for the compliments guys! My personal criticisms are that I could have done the edge highlight more neatly and in 2 stages instead of just 1 stage (the colour I sprayed last, the brightest one, I literally just poured back on to my palette and used for the edge highlight, I probably should have done the same for the 2nd last colour as well to create a softer effect). Secondly I just painted it as if it were uniform colour. In reality, surfaces that are green or white would reflect the most light, surfaces that are red or black would reflect very little light. I was going to achieve this by using 1 layer of black wash on areas that would have been blue, then 2 layers of black wash on areas that would have been red/black to give a bit more depth to the model... ...but since it's the interior of a Valk I figured it won't be seen that often and isn't worth the effort, lol. Now I have to figure out how to paint the exterior. Since I've done a night theme interior, I should probably paint it a darker variant so the whole model looks like it's flying at night. But then it won't fit in with the rest of my army, LOL, I might just paint the exterior normally so it fits better with the rest of my army.

Maybe tint the windows of the cockpit to 'justify' why it's dark inside & at the doors at the side of the troop bay you could do a pool of daylight coming in?

I'm officially envious of your talent. That's really, really good, man. Like, good enough maybe you ought to think about doing a Diorama utilizing that same technique and throwing it up on CMON to have people oggle your miniatures.

Thanks, though it's really not that hard to achieve with an airbrush, I'm only an average painter at best, lol. This would have taken days to do with a hairy brush and wouldn't have looked nearly as nice, it only took an hour or two to achieve with an airbrush. The trick is just hold the airbrush where the light source would be and rotate the model around the airbrush so that paint only hits areas where the light would be hitting. I sprayed the pilots before gluing them in so I could position the airbrush where the cockpit gauges would be shining light from. I only used 3 greens, a darker green for areas far away from the light source (P3 Iosan green), a brighter green for areas closer to the light source (P3 Necrotite Green) and then a very pale green for areas very close to the light source and also for an edge highlight (P3 Necrotite Green mixed with white).
