So since the last thread got closed due to the mods prefering a new thread made instead of posting in an old one, I'll recreate it to hopefully get some input from more members than the last thread had.

This is strictly a non-conversion thread, i.e. let's not debate what weapon you should model on him for most effeciency due to the Eldar Codex simply stating it as a power weapon, but rather what weapon is the Dire Avenger Exarch actually wielding on the unconverted model?

It is obviously a polearm, but I have difficulty deciding whether it is a halberd/poleaxe (which would make it a Power Axe) or a spear (which would make it a Power Lance)

Interestingly some might refer to the weapon as a glaive, in which case what category would it fall under?

Spear vs. Halberd / Poleaxe:

However, notice how the Nemesis Force Halberd looks a lot like the weapon the DA Exarch is fielding:

And this one's clearly called a Halberd and not a Spear. And Halberds are, unless otherwise specified, Power Axes in the BRB. But the Nemesis Force Halberd is "otherwise specified", i.e. has its own rules, so it doesnt use the ones for the Force Axe.

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

Now I know them elvesy gits not be very good at swingin and krumpin things neway, but to me eyes, this weapon looks like a squig-sticker nots a 'ead choppa. When youz chargin into to dance around the boyz and poke em with your pretty Eldar swords, your Nob Boy would probably lower that pointy part and get em in the gullet rather than try to hand over hand chop fings wif it.

In English: it looks more like a lance than an axe to me, therefore, the way it stands, I would give it the lance rules (+1str, AP3 on the charge, -str, AP4 all other times) rather than the power axe rules we all know and love.

I use it as a sword.

I'd say it was closer to a sword than either of those.

If I remember correctly, the BRB has a section in it that has pictures of several weapons, and it identifies that weapon as a spear.

It could be argued that the page is "fluff" and not "rules", but really, just get converting if you want something else, GW intended that bit to be a spear.

Cut off the back half and you have a sword...as is, its a spear...personally you should just take the sword if a maul is unavailable.

Halberds and power axes are very different, a halberd in 40k is basically just a more advanced spear (polearm) thus GKs getting +2I AP3...though I think GKs should just get the Initiative bonus when charged, not charging.

Absent any other info, I said halberd. It clearly looks like it's intended for chopping and not stabbing.

Spear, but I would allow it to be played as sword on occasion as it can be considered "untraditional" by some.

Considering the Eldar codex is up to date I would assuming the codex has named what type of power weapon it is? If it doesn't and it is indeed just a power weapon then it doesn't matter you can call it what ever you want.

Per the rulebook it is a spear. HIWPI, as long as every model was treated the same and you write in your list, it can be any of the four.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
