Hey

Simple question that pops up whenever i browse some Daemon lists.

Would you take a Warpsword for your Soul Grinder at 25 Points?

I think i can outline the option without getting into trouble. Default option is Iron Claw - AP2 Unwieldy Sx2

For an extra 25 points you can take a Warpsword, AP3 (NOT unwieldy) , Master crafted, Specialist Weapon.

What is your opinion, i have an idea what people will say but want to see.

Never take it. It is a huge waste of points. The torrent flamer is all a Grinder needs.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think as the Soul Grinder is a vehicle(Walker) it isn't affected by the unwieldy USR, so it still attacks at I value.

N.B

BRB pg 43, Unwieldy, A model attacking with this weapon does so at Initiative step 1, unless it is a Monstrous Creature or a Walker.

It kinda makes the Warpsword a bit redundant really.

Is this the kind of thing where there is absolutely no need to take this in any situation?

Sidenote , i prefer the S10 AP1 Warpgaze than the flamer, is that so wrong? :O

I guess if theres only one answer to the Warpsword question could discuss the other options.

I think it was probably intended for other things at one point, or got changed at the last second, because it's just straight out worse.

Well, if it weren't a Specialist Weapon then it would have made some sense, +1 attacks with the possibility to re-roll one.
I don't see the reason to take one, honestly.

Never played the Soul Grinder by myself (I will play it soon, though), however I feel that either you play it super offensively (flamer) or you stay back and shoot (then I would stick to the Harvester Cannon/Phlegm Bombardment).
The Warpgaze is actually just good for blowing up vehicles, but I feel that you already have many strong close combat units to do that effectively, while Daemons do lack good heavy ranged support (apart from the soulgrinder itself)

Just my 2 cents though.

Weirdly when it put it into army builder, it gives it an extra attack, i wonder if im getting something wrong or army builder is.

It's just another case of Phil Kelly messing special rules up because he doesn't bother to learn the core rules, like with the Tzeentch chariot that can't move and shot.

I don't think it's flat out wrong, but IMO it's definitely less right. One shot at BS3 isn't that great. I'd rather take the flamer or phlegm bombardment.

Flamer would defo be my second choice though i just hate firing snap shots due to the Ordnance of Phlegm.

Isn't it an add weapon option rather than replace weapon? Giving you plus one attack when using the sword OR the claw as both are specialist? Also, if you go lower str and AP you get to reroll a ws 3 attack per assault phase. Could be handy to ensure you kill enough marines or lighter when mobbed.

Still not worth it, but I can see how it is an alternative. Maybe for ten points or something.

It gives you +1 attack and a reroll to hit at the cost of strength and AP. All in all, not terrible, but certainly not for 25points. I'd pay 10 at most.

It only exists because there's a sword option on the soul grinder's sprue and they needed some reason for it to be there.

You should make him Daemon of Nurgle and therefore Slow and Purposeful therefore enabling it to shoot all its weapons. Plus a shrouded A13 walker in the backfield is handy

Slow and purpose gives relentless, something all vehicles have already. All vehicles, even heavy (except superheavy), must snap shot all other weapons if firing 1 ordnance weapon.

For its cost, no, never take it.

+1 attack, and master crafted is not worth the price tag.

If it was only 5-10 points, then maybe people would take it.

It looks cool but otherwise isn't very useful.
