No xenos battle brothers with imperium. And no battle brothers with Tau. That would fix some problems, even if it isn't 100% lore accurate.
Oh, and nids should have imperial allies to represent a gene stealer cult. Just require brood lords instead of commissars and no special characters.

Might help game wise to those who care more about winning than anything else. Would absolutely destroy the fluff part of alliances though. Ultramarines too worried to act appropriately due to those scheming untrustworthy cadians alongside them? Nah not for me.

The system certainly needs to be fixed but that would make alot of people more butt hurt since it would make no sense that CSM and chaos daemons couldn't battle brother, The same way it would make no sense if certain space marine chapters couldn't ally, as it is the greatest order of heresy for an astartes to turn on his brothers and rarely happens since the horus heresy

I think the player and his/her opponent should agree on what rating the alliance is beforehand, depending on conversion/fluff/etc.
So the DKoK wouldn't be able to ally with the T'au but the Gue'se'va could.

The Siege regiment can ally with Tau, but the Assault Brigade can't IIRC.
Forgeworld really ought to make the two have the same wargear/ally matrix...

I never thought that made sense.. They should just have it in the same book.
Don't know if you've ever played Dawn of War Firestorm over Kronus mod but there's an option to either take an Armoured Brigade or an Infantry Battallion, and the options are restricted from there. This would make much more sense IMO.
