I'm more about the look and fluff of an army not really the rules so much. So what I'm asking is for you all to help sell me on either the Dark Angels or Blood Angels chapter and why? Thank you for your time.

Blood Angels. We utilize our flaws, have peerless warriors and are one of the most respected chapters in existence. Our characters are beasts if utilized right, out basic troops are the most diverse and our background one of the most noble. All our warriors are some of the strongest as far as mental prowess (holding off the Black Rage and Red Thirst and all) we dont hide our histories, are open with our brothers and reliable (DA have been known to pop out of a war-zone because they got word of a member of the fallen nearby whereas our Lord Dante was trusted with not just his own chapter, but those forces of the Salamanders and Ultramarines during the Second War of Armageddon) . We do not shy from a fight in fact we relish the coming war. Currently we have called the brothers of our gene seed to rally to our home world, in order to stave off the Tyranid threat and wipe the stain from existence. Though many think us corrupted due to the Flaw we are realistically one of the most dedicated chapters. Our Primarch, Sanguinius, stood by the emperors side, even after having a vision of the future and knowing that to do so would end his life. In doin so he saved the life of the Emperor, weakened his brother and saved the Imperium of Mankind. There is no more noble a path than becoming a Blood Angel.

That was glorious, you should apply for Mat Wards job good sir. Strangely enough my fiance is playing the...*gulp* Bugs so I look forward to our angelic brethren meeting the veil foe. I really do love the BA they were my first army when I was 12.

Thank you good sir. I may have gotten a little carried away and while i am more a BA fan make sure you explore your options before you pick, and worst case get both codicies and easily exchanged units if you honestly cant choose (ac squads and the like are easily changed as long as there are no army specific shenanigans like hand flamers). You should pick the army YOU like best (but really death company is so cool looking how could you not go for them?)

That and I really dig the Stormraven ships I know the Ravenwing get their own special ship but... a HUGE red ship with guns blazing carrying a pack of elegant psychos is pretty cool.

And dont forget their friendly neighborhood fragnaught-2 s6 rending flamer template that can jump off a plane, shoot and then mess you up. Or blendernaughts. Nothing is more satisfying than a 125 point model killing a full tac squad in a single turn of combat.

Or have my luck and he'll wind up hitting a hill while a light lance takes out the ship with a full crew lol.

So I've been seeing a lot of "die hard BA fans" bitching about 6th edition assault how we lose the +1 is it really THAT big of a deal? My opinion was/is that a decent commander can make light of any situation.

Meh. not too bad a nerf. So our enemies have a chance in melee, makes it more fun for them than just tabling them. I run on average 2 assault squads (one with Dante) and a 5-man DC with a Pfist chaplain for the reroll buff. Sufficient melee to distract the enemy gunlines (mostly loyalist marines and DA) and if Dante Deepstrikes in with a combat squad with 2x inferno pistols he can be behind enemy lines (with NO scatter) and take out a hi-value vehicle (landraiders mostly) as well as force the enemy to displace a unit or two to get rid of him. add a Sanguinary Priest in higer points games and laugh off small arms fire.

See that's what I figured but reading the threads I'm assuming it's players that really don't care about Sanguinius or the BA and just are win crazed so if it's not super easy to win they flip out. I forget those types exist.

I prefer to forge a narrative. If both sides enjoy a game nobody can lose. If someone is a total prick to you and tables you in 4 turns than whats the point of even playing. Its a game after-all.

Plus the Death Company's Black Rage rule is not a nerf as they no longer have to move at the nearest unit.

Do you like cool special characters, jump troops, bitchin' dreadnoughts and fast Vindicators!?

OR WOULD YOU PREFER BIKES GALOR AND TERMINATORS GOIN' PEWPEWPEW DOMO AREGATO FISTO ROBOTO?

Both have a decent story and look.

Loosing +1I isn't a big deal in the context of sixth edition. What is a big deal is that you're likely to get shot before getting to assault in the first place.

6th ed is so far from balanced that player skill is way down the list of things that win you the game.

/facepalm

You couldn't be more wrong in terms of playerskill. But okay.

Anyhow, Go with the Blood Angels... Their fluff is just fething epic, and their Primarch is just so likeable. And you get the Carnifex on a 25mm base (Mephiston... seriously, done right, this guy can win you games on his own).

All their models are just so fun! No not the most "competitive" but who gives a gak? This game is for fun, and you will grow an attachment to your models. It may as well be models you actually like, and like their background. I vote Blood Angels.

Also, don't downplay the loss of +1I. It's a pretty big deal when playing against other MEQs, but in a meta full of Tau/Eldar/Taudar I suppose it won't be.

I couldn't disagree more, player skill is a distant third after codex choice and list build in 6th.

That's reasonable.. Saying its way down the list isn't.

Just be aware the BA are the worst codex in the game right now.

There are many matchups where the math is so skewed that skill is highly unlikely to be able to close the gap.

I really don't. I think that the new Tyranids codex has more effective builds than BA. Maybe I'm wrong. I think many people are still on an iron arm hangover. But the synapse thing is kick in the jimmies. It's a hard call, but I like the pricing better in the Tyranid codex.

Could be worse, you could have the newest/worst codex in the game.

Tyranids don't recover from the triple kicker that Is Instinctive Behavior, no access to allies and no access to book powers.

I'll concede that's possible. I've only played one game against them, and that was with a C:SM list. I don't play as BA that much anymore.

Blood Angels it is, I've been a fan of them for over a decade, can't turn my back on the sons of Sanguinious now. Few days ago bought some things that would go with DA so have to return those and get my fiancé her Tyranid and Dwarf books as well.

Dark Angels all the way.

1) It's the most "complete" legion currently. An ultramarines successor chapter's chapter master would probably be in a huff and upset if Marneus Calgar issued orders to him. An Unforgiven Chapter would listen to Azrael. The Inner Circle unites all the Unforgiven chapters in a way none of the other legions are united post-heresy.

2) From a modeling perspective, robes are bad-ass and a lot of fun to paint. They also have specialized companies that utilize different color schemes, so you'll be more challenged as a painter.

3) Bikers are awesome. Terminators are awesome. Bikers that assist terminators is awesome.

4) We've got the only functional primarch! He's hiding inside a floating rock and no one knows he's still alive, but I mean, at least we fans know he's alive and well and ready to assist the imperium.

5) We've got the coolest arch-nemesis in Cypher. The Cypher dataslate and his rules literally modify your game if he's in an army facing Dark Angels. To the best of my knowledge, there aren't any other armies in the game with any sort of way to literally add extra rules to the mission depending on the opponent you face.

6) Green > Red.
