Subject: Fluffy Competetive Allies? Team Tournament Allies?

So, with the release of the new dwarf book, I am looking at how best to create a team with the dwarfs. (1000 points each force)
My partner will be bringing the Dwarfs. The only stipulation is the NEED to use iron breakers.
I myself am looking at running one of the following: Lizard men, Dwarfs or Empire.
My original partner was a lizard man player, and I began to customize and empire force with a "conquistador theme." including a converted Steam Tank to be a steam boat. With that in mind I am favoring the Dwarf - Empire combo army.
So what I am asking is for some "cool" fluffy fun ideas of thematic combinations with the dwarfs, which not only make fluffy sense but also have some fun quirks.
Idea #1: Zufbar and Marienburg. Lots of gyrocopters, a steam tank (boat) and sea faring warriors with movement trays made to be boats...
Idea #2: Southern Dwarf hold. Lost Slayers and Tetto'ekkos Skinks. Vanguarding d3 units of slayers or iron breakers? yes please.
Any other suggestions? ideas on how to make either of the above ideas competitive?

Dwarfs have only 3 fluffy allies
- other dwarfs
- Empire
- High Elves (if it's set very far in the past)
Even Bretonnians are not great allies for them as the Brets would despise the Stunties for being "dishonourable peasants using blackpowder"
There's no reason for Dwarfs to ally to LM except in dire circumstances

I don't see why Dorfs couldn't ally with LM against Skaven. They both hate the blighters.

It depends what the fluff is. In most situations, I imagine that Dwarves would indeed be a bit put off with allying with Brest, HE, WE etc, but, if either (or both) of their civilisations were under extreme threat from a common foe, those hesitations go away.

Yeah, the dwarf-zufbar and Empire-Marienburg combo is the best option I believe. The Challenge is that I feel dwarf armies are likely to be pretty darn competitive at the moment. Their infantry is pretty stellar and rather cheap.
So what does the Empire have to bring to the table that the Dwarf army doesn't do better?
Wizards? use of a wizard removes the dwarf +2 to dispel
Priests? wont remove the natural +2 dispel
So besids a steam tank, what does the Empire have to offer a dwarf army in the form of an ally?
Current Thoughts:
Characters: Priests & Engineers
Core: Minimum:Knights to bring mobility Or swords to hold an enemy unit in place.
Special: Demigrif knights, pistoliers and other mobile stuff
Rare: A Steam tank... or Two Helblasters
Alternative would be swapping out the priest for a Wizard to throw down some life/light/beast buffs on the dwarfs. However, this angle would be better achieved by using High Elves, so I'm tempted to avoid the magic angle all together

Your assuming the lizards would communicate this is not likely.

Empire filth.
Stank, Demis(3) 9 iC knights, warrior priest with a little bit of gear. and go for the lvl 4 on horse. Light or life would be the best call but if you have a lot of IB, the Heavens could be quite nice, it helps heavy armour with rerolling saves and forcing opponents to reroll KB hits.
