When a spellcaster or wizard casts a spell in warhammer, do they use words like in LOTR, or do the spells simply form on their hands, staves or before them like in Skyrim? I'm writing a crossover SKYRIM/Warhammer fanfiction and I like the idea that Empire wizards would have to do a gandalf to control their spells, what do you think/know?

On a different note, do you think the races of warhammer would be fairly matched against their SKYRIM counterparts (draugr and skeletons vs tomb kings, Argonians vs Lizardmen, Empire+ Bretonnia vs the races of man, Orcs vs Orcs etc. (?)

It depends on who's writing it. Some Black Library authors have them say things, others don't. Some go full D&D and have them say things AND do specific hand gestures and some of the most powerful spells require a whole ritual or take a couple uninterrupted minutes to cast.

So, like pretty much everything GW, it's up to you because there's no such thing as dogmatic canon.

I imagine it would depend on the race the wizards belong to. Generally speaking, I view gestures and words as an aid for magic, i.e. the lesser magic races (Empire, Ogres etc) would probably need them, whereas the greater magic races (Elves, Slann) wouldn't.

And Night Goblin Shamans do extra gestures because mushrooms...

The flavour text on my favourite spell, all categories, says the sorcerer disappears "with a BAMF!" in a puff of smoke.

Not sure if the ratman says that or if it's a sound made by some kind of spontaneous influx of air sucking into the place where the sorcerer left a void.

It's Skitterleap, by the way.

On the topic if whether races would be matched across the two settings I think it's very race dependent.

Nords - Marauders is plausible.
Bretons would probably be closest to Brettonians, imperials and Empire have similarities.
The three elven races are reasonably similar across both settings.
Orcs have a lot of similarities but tend to be a lot more civilised in Skyrim.
I would say there is very little similarities between Argonians and Lizardmen however, despite their appearance.

Warhammer is the right of all sentient nerds!

Read Doc Blue Scribes. I think that is the best description you'll come across for magic. It contains the creation myths for spells for many races.

But it mentions incantations and spells. They write them down and read them.

The teleportation itself makes that sound. Skitterleap actually works the exact same way as Nightcrawler's teleportation, except through the Realm of Chaos/Warp rather than Hell(or is it?!).
