Got a bunch of models over the holidays and am finally finding time to get them all assembled and painted. I decided to go for a new color scheme and I really like it but I am not sure how to base them. My first thought would be to make an icy base as it would match the color scheme. But then I thought it might blend in too much and thought maybe something more earthy may stand out. Or I could go for total contrast and put bright pink crystals on the base and make it seem like my tau are fighting over some rare resource rich planet. What type of base do you guys think could go best with my over all color scheme?

I was initially thinking of a rich brown but the more i think about it, the pink crystal idea could really work. Maybe with a pinky peach sand?
Maybe try doing a spare base & put your model next to it before committing?

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Brown earth broken up with grey stone, or even accented with pink crystals could work. You definitely want the models to contrast with the bases for visual "pop" rather than to blend in.

I agree dark brown earthy tones but with pink crystals growing through in places would look great.

Need to start planning basing soon..

That is a very similar blue to a Menoth scheme I am currently working on. The red/earth brown works best in my opinion. Here is an example;

Base coat was p3 Bloodstone, applied via airbrush. Highlight was done with p3 Menoth White Base. Then I airbrushed a very thin coat of p3 Brown Ink(mixed 50/50 with water). The final step was to paint the cracks in the soil with pf Battlefield Brown.
