So I have the urge to dust off my BT after I shelved them when the codex dropped.

Captain: Artificer Armor, Relic blade

Dreadnought: Assault Cannon, storm bolter

Crusader Squad: 7 Initiates, 3 Neophytes, Lascannon, Plasma gun

Crusader Squad: 8 Initiates, 2 Neophytes, Lascannon, Grav-gun

Bike Squad: 4 Bikes, Sgt with melta bombs, 2 Plasma guns

Tried to make it somewhat fluffy but still effective, as that was the initial reasoning behind their shelving

NOTE: I don't want a debate on the codex, just if the list needs any major work or just tweaking

I like where your head is, and this does seem very fluffy. Basically you are going to charge across the battlefield on foot and try to shoot down your opponent. However, at 700 points, Deployment will be really really crucial because he probably wont have that many units that will be in range of your footslogging. All it would take would be one Vindicator or a couple leman russ tanks to ruin this lists day. Those bikes will be kind of vulnerable as well. What I might recommend for that dreadnought would be a drop pod. Sure he may die in the first round but he will take all of the enemies attention away from your footslogging units. And if the opponent ignores the dreadnought in the backfield, then that dread is going to ruin their day. But where to get the points for the pod?

How about something like this

Captain w/ artificer armor and relic blade
Dreadnought w/ assault cannon in drop pod
10 initiates, 5 neophytes w/ sword brother, MM, grav-gun
5 initiates w/ las/plas
4 bikes w/ 2 plasma guns, meltabomb

Thanks for the response Icculus, I know what you mean about deployment, I'm really scared about pie plates. I like your idea about the dreadnought popping in behind enemy lines, I'd be hoping for rending on the assault cannon and that he doesn't get one shotted by anything. I also like your idea of the more stationary las/plas squad for backfield objectives, and the bigger crusader squad for taking midfield ones. The problem with this list the more I think about it is the prospect of getting the first turn, and that's not a guarantee. (Oh and that captain is a throwback to a Castellan) I'll try this out soon and see if I can still play effective fluffy lists

Yeah the assault cannon can be pretty nice. I tend to run mine venerable with the MM and heavy flamer. Venerable to have a better shot of that MM hitting and its a tad more survivable since its going behind enemy lines on turn 1, and then the heavy flamer gives some versatility if I need to hit some infantry. And since the heavy flamer is Str 5, it can do some damage on rear armor as well.

Although the smallest point game I have played with Black Templar is 1500.

But yea, test out your lists, see what you think. That one, small backfield objective holder may just be a waste altogether, and you may have been on to something by having two mid-sized squads. The one list I ran footslogging in I used Assault Terminators with TH/SS. I had an emperors champion in there and a chapter master with a storm shield. By the time I got in to melee, I had 2 terminators left, the EC and the CM. But then, from there on out that squad was moving around killing everything in close combat. I think you are essentially using that crusade squad as a delivery system for you Captain (Castellan) and his relic blade, and that works just fine.
