Hey guys, so for the past couple of weekends I've been losing to my friends DA. We started with the DV set and have both made additions. He likes to run a firestorm redoubt, 2x5 man Deathwatch terms, Azrael, a libby, 1x3 man bikers, 3 tac squads (1 split into combat squads, 1 in a rhino, 1 on foot). We play about 1600pts. I run a Dp with wings, black mace, ml3, tzeentch, chaos lord with murder sword, plasma pistol, sigil, 2x10 man cultists ( 1xcc, 1x autoguns), 7 chosen with mixed weps, MoS, Excess, 3x oblits with MoT, a heldrake with baleflamer, and a helbrute with standard MM and PF. I used to do the winning but then he added the firestorm redoubt and extra terminators and extra tacs and a rhino and now I'm getting run over. Last mission we played was the Relic, and i tried flank with my lord and chosen to clear out for my cultists to claim the relic, i had one oblit in my deployment zone to offer fire support as I planned to DS the others into his deployment zone. He had his termies in reserve. The bottom line is that he was putting out so many boltershots and icarus shots to my DP and Heldrake I could never contest the relic and he DS his DW behind and I had nothing to really hurt them, I had my helbrute held back for such an event but he and one oblit can only do so much before they get run over and my DP was in combat and the heldrake was trying to burn his tac squads. My only scorers, the cultists, one I used as a screen to get my lord and chosen into combat, the other was using cover to stay alive. It did not go well, we ran out of time so we ended at the finish of the third turn and he had way more points. He had maybe 50 or 60 more points on the board than me, that didn't help but I don't have any more models and I took every upgrade I could to catch up with him. I did much better last game with a ton more terrain on the board, we placed less terrain this time and he had shooting lanes all day and I have no real dakka than my oblits, help! I'm looking for some tactical tips and some help on what to add to my force to even the odds. To add some wrinkles I'm on a budget, my idea was to purchase another chaos half of DV for about $40 off of ebay and get an additional 28 models, beef up my cultists, more marines, an extra helbrute to help everyone out and somehow get a LR and a rhino. I'm also fanatical about the word bearers, so I'm going to convert the chosen and hq to a squad of possessed and a 5 man regular csm squad and use the marine with the maul as a DA. A lot going on, am I crazy?

If your strategy relies on the flyers then your immediate objective is to blast the redoubt to hell and back on turn one. Consider a Defiler and possibly a Deep Striking Terminator squad.

Get a few termies with combi-meltas. Or raptors. Whoever you like best. It's risky but 3 meltas can be good in this situation.
