I didn't really know where else to put this thread, so I figured Dakka discussions was appropriate enough.
I have a bunch of Star Wars Lego sets that are built, and would like to sell. They're just taking up too much room in my house and, as much as it pains me, I think I need to let them go. I just don't have any idea how to go about selling them.
I have instructions for all of them, but was curious how people typically do it. Deconstruct? Ship wrapped in bubble and hope for the best? What?
Also, if any of you happen to be interested, I'd happily give you a list of what I have. I have some of the larger starships and would happily sell them for a great deal, especially if you can recommend methods of shipping!!
Thanks in advance for any advice.

That's an interesting question... unfortunately I've mostly only kept track of wargaming items for selling/trading, so I really have no idea how to go about this! It does seem like selling them deconstructed would be best, to me, but taking a picture of it built beforehand, along with stored along with instructions after.
That'd be my take, at least . Good timing with the movie which just came out... which, by the way, lower your expectations for if you go see!

Taking them apart would make them significantly easier to ship. You'll just have to be careful not to lose any bits when you disassemble them.
But I agree with Rtides - I'd take pictures of them assembled beforehand. They'll sell better that way IMO.
AND you might even want to list them as buyer's choice. Keep them whole and let the winning bidder state their preference - I would think most people would want the fun of putting them together, but their might be some people who are just Star Wars fans and would like to skip the trouble?

I know people who are lego collectors and this is where they go. They can get individual bricks or whole kits.

I agree with RiTides; take a picture of the completed set and a picture of the instructions. When it comes to shipping, take the set completely apart and put the pieces in sealed baggies.
Also, what do you have that you are selling? I have a collection of them myself (unfortunately, I had to take them all apart when we bought a house seven years ago and I never put them back together) but there are a few sets I don't have.

My advice;
1. Disassemble them all, put all the pieces in one box.
2. Put the box away somewhere.
3. Forget about the box.
4. When you rediscover it in a few years time; have hours of fun putting them all back together again
Rinse and repeat.

Do you still have the instructions? Without those I would recommend against taking them apart.

do you have any Star Wars sets? There are a couple OOP sets I've been scouring eBay for, but haven't been able to find (at non-insane prices, at least).

This. Take them apart, put them in boxes or plastic bags and keep them hidden away. You'll only regret it otherwise. I got rid of all my old 40k RT stuff 18 months before starting to play 40k again.

#7961 dearth maul ship Tempting, I don't have this one and I've always liked Darth Maul.
#7964 republic cruiser thing Cool ship, but I have a slight dislike for TCW sets. They don't mix well with the rest of my collection, especially the minifigures.
#9497 republic striker star fighter Meh. Not my type of thing.
#8093 PLO koons ship Meh. TCW and it doesn't really appeal to me.
#6212 lukes xwing Ooh. Very nice. I'll have to think about it.
#8128 cad bane speeder Meh. Not my type of thing.
#8088 arc fighter That does look nice.
#75013 some republic walker thing What is that?
#75004 z95 headhunter TCW.
#8092 Luke's land speeder Damn. A couple of months earlier and I'd be all over this, but with a new Cantina later this year...
#75003 a wing Just bought one a couple of weeks ago.
#75002 walker with yoda TCW.
#9525 pre Vizlas fighter TCW.
All the above are complete with instructions.
I also have, without instructions:
Darth vadars tie advanced UCS? See my comment below.
Ultimate collectors batmobile As above.
UCS sets only go up in value from the RRP when they're discontinued. If that's the UCS (10175), sell it on Bricklink and you should get around $250 minimum, even without instructions. eBay, you could probably get $400. As for the UCS Batmobile, it looks like that goes for around $200 on eBay or Bricklink.
So, the above is all just my opinion. I'll definitely have to think about some of those sets...

Jeez, it's crazy ho much the re-sale value is on some of these sets. Will I help onto all my old ones now! Why did I have to sell them all at yard sales?!
