Like many others, I've been to the GW site recently, and I noticed something:

The new knights aren't rolled up into something else. They made a new army section in the army list for them.

Does that mean we have a new 40k army? I mean, I know that they're going to need to flesh things out some more, but that seems like more than a little signalling on GW's part. Or am I just reading too much into this?

Maybe, or maybe not.
They could be making a new army, but they could have also put it in a seperate category because it didn't fit anywhere else.

The imperial knights mechanicus knights or the rogue knights can be taken as a army on their own according to the White dwarf.

Interesting, perhaps they have...

More likely though, they've simply put it there for a) ease, b) more attention and c) because they don't actual fit well into anything else.

As I understand it, any Imperial faction can take one, which would mean putting it into IG as well as every SM faction. Possible, I guess, but not as easy as this.

That said, the new weekly WD setup does lend itself to slow, periodic releases, such as a new army being released slowly week by week. So perhaps.

I guess only time will tell.

So, then all that time people have been creating threads about "Will GW create another army?" the answer is yes. They're called Imperial Knights.

Perhaps that's why they're changing the name of Imperial Guard, so as to avoid confusion with their new army.

I wonder when they're going to publish a codex. I also wonder if it's going to be an all-big-base army, or if they're going to add stuff in at the bottom like gnoblars in the ogre kingdom's book.

You can run them as a Primary Detachment so I would say that makes them a new army.

But then why didn't they put these in with all the other superheavies over in the escalation section of the website?

Instead, they added a new army, rather than adding them to the page with the other titans.

Wakshaani wrote:

My guess is that it would just be rounded out a bit. Like, you have a Knight Paladin or Knight Errand as your two troops choices, and then they'll have a Knight Grandmaster (or something), which is the same as a knight but with better stats, options, and the opportunity to buy a bitz upgrade pack.

Also, if we take one more step down the rabbit hole... 7th edition starter box? Imperial Knights and Tyranid? Imperial Knights and something else?

You can run 3-6 as a Primary Detachment without HQ

That said, expect rules for a Knight Baron in the near future I reckon, even if it is just +10 point/+1A upgrade, it was a feature of Knight Households back in the day, and it would be super easy to throw in the book/supplement.

If by new army you mean this:

http://www.blacklibrary.com/games-workshop-digital-editions/Codex-Legion-of-the-Damned.html

Then yes, because here is a brand new codex, dedicated to just one unit that gives you rules to field them as an army unto themselves. So all those Codex:Helldrakes jokes are not far off.

They don't care enough about chaos to give something that nice.

Also we already have Codex: Helldrakes anyways.

Oh wow this is hilarious.

Has GW really explained what kind of games these models are intended for? Everything pointed toward Apocalypse at first but now I'm starting to wonder if that's changed.

GW don't generally go in for price breaks.

The few times they do do so tend to be viewed as borderline-miracles.

This isn't new.
If I remember correctly the $1k+ Sicarius set was something like $10 more or less together than separate.

@not_u I knew of the higher priced bundles I just never price checked. But that really doesn't surprise me at this point. Isn't there like a 10,000 dollar one? Wonder what you get there. Free reclusiarch?

If we listen to the rumors, there is about to be yet another new stand-alone army.

Admech is apperantly coming to 40k, according to rumors. hope they dont copy-paste the 30k admech...that thing makes op armies without even trying, just spamming troops is op!)

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

At least according to lexicanum there where a couple more classes of knights in epic, a knight baron that led the households and used custom gear, a knight lancer used for scouting and using a power lance type weapon and a battle cannon, a the heavier knight castellans and crusaders.

So going by this we would get a HQ in the baron, troops in the errant and paladin, fast attack in the lancer and heavy support in the crusader and castellan.

My armies:
vior'la sept 12k
Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
