Hi all, maybe you can help lower my blood pressure today this should be a question that doesn't need asking, but where can I buy some basic modelling supplies?

All I want is some plain bevelled slot bases in 25mm, 40mm and 60mm, some (ideally rounded) cavalry bases, some wire for pinning and some platicard. It doesn't seem like much to ask but I've just spent an hour looking for a site that does everything and can't even find one that does the bases I want and I'm getting pretty wound up When did everyone switch to resin bases to the point that no one sells normal ones?

For reference I've checked:

Wayland
Total Wargamer
Dark Sphere
Wargames Workshop
Miniature Mojo
Valiant Wargames
Antenocitis Workshop
Javis

and maybe some others. I'm aware I could look on ebay but I don't want to have to pay shipping 8 times over :/

Thanks for any links!

Ive been through this pain too my friend. eBay is it now - its so annoying that I have to pay extra postage just to order brass wire, pl'card and bases from three different sources - If I come across a reliable source for all three I will let you know!

Can't help you with the bases, but for plasticard, tubing, "I" beams etc etc I'd go to a "proper" high street model shop. Railway modellers have all kinds of useful bits available to them that you didn't realise you needed !

For pinning I use paperclips, cheap as chips and a box lasts for ever.

I'm glad to know it's not just me I thought I was going mad!

I searched for 60mm bases on ebay and it seems to be only resin ones there too :/ Maybe I'll just use a CD or something, doesn't look as good though.

I use paperclips for everything I can but I need some thin stuff for more delicate jobs like Infinity minis. 0.5mm is the only choice for some of those parts!

I might look for a railway model shop online, I don't know of any round here that are still going. I'm wanting to do some orky scratch building so lots of plasticard is needed!

For the 0.5mm pinning wire, look at Model Display Products

I don't think they can help with the Plasticard or plain bases though.

Maybe 4D Models for the plasticard and might do the brass wire too? I doubt they do bases though.

For all in 1 place you might need to go to a big gaming show like Salute?

Thanks guys, placed an order with total wargamer for a pack of bases which had almost all the ones I needed and 4d modelling for some wire and plasticard stuff.

Rich are you from Wayland Games? Your my 1st stop for new modelling stuff, it'd be awesome if you carried it all makes it easier to justify new models if I'm saving on postage too!

I notice you are in Silsden, there's

http://www.modelrailshop.co.uk/ in Bradford, which has a good range of railway and modelling stuff.
http://www.cravenmodelcentre.co.uk/ in Skipton is also useful - not such a wide range as Frizinghall models,
http://www.shipleymrs.org.uk/ Shipley Model railway society have an annual show which has a very good range of traders. It's in September, so not that useful if you need the stuff now.

Dullcote from testors plus plastic soldiers sprays, hard to get paints from all makers in one place

I use paperclips of various sizes for pinning wire.

What do you cut them with?

I used brass/copper as I can clip it and file it, is not steel not that easy and I would not want to dull my razor saw to do the job.

I used a decent pair of pliers to cut paperclip wire

(typically I wouldn't try to file it and for aplications where you'd want to do so brass rod is best)

As above. A pair of pliers. Why waste good looking and expensive brass rod on stuff you are not going to see?

Element Games in Stockport sell slottabases, I saw them today. They're pretty good guys.

As for the rest, some arts shops will stock everything. I use Fred Aldous (http://www.fredaldous.co.uk/model-shop/casting-modelling.html) for shopping in person, and I've bought loads from Hobby's (http://hobby.uk.com/) for shopping by post.
Hobby's sell a printed catalogue in WH Smith as well, which is definitely worth getting.

Element games are good. They also advertise on dakka, so if you visit them via the advert banner you can help fund dakka

I keep forgetting that. Whoops.
But, Element are good for supplies, yeah. Generally good, too, so get your models from there if they sell them.
