Maddening Mutant Boss of Chaos

As much as I love modelling, playing and narrativ-izing daemons, I've been feeling the need to put some new things on the table. And I think my opponents would appreciate facing more variety.

Still, I can't quite bring myself to disavow the Ruinous Powers altogether. So it's back to Chaos Space Marines for me. I've been pulling some old Word Bearer models out from the back of the cupboard.....

Which is a little embarrassing. The models have acquired a lot of nicks and chips over the years, so I have many repairs and much refurbishing to do. And then a lot of this stuff is, shall we say, enthusiastically converted and very crudely painted. So I'll be playing the army and, at the same time, as funds and time allow, fleshing it out with new models and meanwhile trying to bring older models to a higher hobby standard.

I'm starting with a Chaos Lord on a bike (or juggernaut, depending on how the mood takes me).

Years ago I worked up a set of Chaos Biker conversions that grafted WHFB Chaos Knight and Tzeentch Flamer bitz onto the Chaos Biker kit:

Those models, by the way, are a good example of my early stuff. Fun ideas; weak execution. This Lord, for example:

Yeah. Crude stuff.

Anyway, dusting off that concept as a starting point, and opening the newer plastic WHFB Chaos Knight kits (which are full of amazing bitz), I started in:

...

Then affixed a head/torso/pair of arms from the Chaos Lord kit:

This particular villain will be marked by Khorne...

...and gifted with an Axe of Blind Fury.

Vroom Mwu-ha-ha Vroom.

I don't know yet what daemonic head I'll have erupting from the front. Something will occur.

Thanks for looking.

Now that's a true Hell's Angel looking forward to this one a lot.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

This project froze for few months, as I tried to figure out what kind of daemon-beast-head would suit the model. After several false starts, I worked up a simple conversion using half of one the WHFB Chaos Knight horse heads adorned with several tusks and a horn.

That solution got the project unstuck. I worked some basic cabling and greenstuff...

... followed by more greenstuffing...

... until I came up with something that does feel something like a Chaos Biker Lord wielding an Axe of Khorne:

It's getting close. I still have create a suitably gory base, and touch things up.

Thanks for looking.

That biker lord is absolutely stunning! Easily one of the coolest bike conversions I have seen so far! I am so stealing that idea

Anyway, absolutely amazing conversion work!

It's like a daemonic centaur-bike hybrid.

In other words, it's brilliant and captures the daemonic organic/manufactured look that most current Chaos models lack.
