Is there any way to to take drop pods in a 30k army besides taking the orbital assult rite of war?

Thanks dakka!

As of now, besides the Orbital Assault Rite of war, the only options for individual units taking Drop Pods is to play as Sons of Horus, which allows Justaerin Terminators, Command Squads, Veteran Squads, and Seeker Squads to take Dreadclaw Drop Pods

The night lords have access through a RoW as well... And death storm pods are heavy choices

Thanks for the clarification!

Next question. Considering the army unit type restrictions (drop pod or deep strike only units), is it possible to have an army that starts turn 1 with nothing on the board until drop pods come in?

Thanks!

Well, if you're talking about an Army using the Orbital Assault rite of war, then absolutely.

Everything needs to have something to deep strike in, when playing an Orbital Assault Army; Be it a drop pod, or a storm eagle. So yes, you are entirely free to keep everything off the board during deployment and wait until your first player-turn, whence your drop pods would start coming in.

You may also deploy some units and reserve those storm eagles/drop pods empty. The infantry units only need have a unit that CAN deepstrike them in, they do not necessarily have to be inside that unit.

Using the rite of war orbital assult sounds like will be a lot of fun.

I was thinking maybe
Praetor (goes in eagle)
Assault squad
Tac squad - pod
Tac squad - pod
Contemptor - pod
Terminators
Stormeagle

So round 1 two drop pods automatically come on. Then starting round 2 , roll for reserves as normal?

Sounds pretty cool!

Praetor and Termies in a Storm Eagle makes for a nasty face beating unit. And against other Heresy armies drop pods are a serious shake-up
