Right now I'm favoring something like this -

An Exocrine for gets hot free plasma.

A Tyrannofex for double template goodness + beefiness (2+ 6W 6T is godlike).

And then either a Carnifex Brood or a Biovore brood. Both provide mass firepower, so either works for me.

I'd love to use a Tyrgon or a Mawloc, but I'm not seeing how they could be better than the above choices.

Thoughts?

The 3 most efficient Tyranid Heavy Supports are:

Biovores

Carnifexes

Mawlocs

Everything else is secondary IMO.

My tops are

Carnifexes and Biovores.

I've not had any luck at all with Mawlocs or Tyrannofex to this point. I've only played a single game with the Exocrine so i can't give it a rating just yet.

I like Mawlocs, and I have a personal liking for Tyranofex, I just seem to always get a lot out of the old gal... I run it with Adrenals, and a Thorax Hive. My next fav is Tyrgon Prime, again I just get a lot out of it.

So my Heavy slot(s) is Mawloc, Tyranofex, Big Wormy....Dakkafex is made out of epic win as well.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

I don't really rate Mawlocs, you need to use Lictors to make them reliable and using their attack more than once means they spend half the game off the table.

Tyrannofexes are one of the best options for absorbing damage, and the double-template weapon loadout is cheap and pretty scary for GEQ armies.

Dakkafexes are versatile, and almost Orky in their ability to either kill nothing or absolutely everything at random. Don't forget they're one of the better ground-based options against flyers if you don't have any FMCs of your own.

Biovores are cheap and often effective, good to squeeze into lists that focus points on other areas, such as HQ or FA.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of naked Carnifexi, two to a brood. Just loping up the field for less than the cost of a land raider, enjoying cover saves from the Hormagaunt screen and venomthropes, just befre they smash into the front line and start doing terrible, terrible things to people. Everything they touch just *dies*, and when you run every turn, they get there faster than expected.

No match for a pair of Dakkafexes, maybe, but dirt cheap and quite good at what they do. If nothing else, stick 'em base to base and put your Venomthrope based up behind them to prevent LOS. They can't afford to ignore it, but 8 wounds at Toughness 6 and 3++ save is a nightmare to try and deal with. Best of all, they have enough oomph to cripple a unit in one round of melee but shouldn't eradicate it, so they'll stay in melee in the opposition shooting phase, then be freed up in your phase to go stomp someone else's face.

I don't even want to think about what happens if they get into Tau lines. Okay, I lie, I do.

Well, I'd opt for three Carnifexes walking through the centre of the board.

About 2/3 of the players in my club play 3+ armies, so maybe thats why I've had such success with the exocrine. That large blast is a god send for deepstriking terminators.

Carnifexen. No question about it.

36 TL Str6 shots? 12 T6 wounds? For 450 points?

The Biovore makes wry list and is IMHO the best choice. Carnifex are good in broods I admit, but I like Tyrannofex and Exocrines. I just don't like Mawlocs personally as they can't hurt vehicles or multiwound models.
