Hey everyone,

I really like the Catachan and Cadian CCS and i was wondering if it would be viable to take both as two HQ units.
The Catachan one would take Straken and the Cadian one would just have the usual comander.
Would this be a waste of points or could i pull it off?

Thanks a lot!

I'm abit of a newbie but I feel I spend to many points on my command squad as it is as guard do get killed very quickly unless wrapped up in a nice little tank.

There would be no issues as far as I can see taking 2, but you would have to select one 'Warlord'.

I guess it all depends on how many points you are looking to play with.

It could be a nice idea in higher-point games, as you can tailor them for different roles. One can focus on shooting with their high special weapon capability (4 plasma/meltas ruins anyone's day) while the other sits back and gives orders, or one can be choppy (PF on the Commander or throw in Straken, add a priest and some bodyguards) while the other is shooty.

You do lose the ability to take a Lord Commissar or Primaris, but it might well be worth it.

Is there a difference (rules-wise) between Catachan and Cadian?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

One gets his 5+ save from a cotton tank top.

Other than that, not really.

And massive bench-press induced gains. Don't forget the gains.

However, like he said, there is no difference between Cadians and Catachans, rule-wise.

That said, Straken isn't very good. If you were taking two CCS':

In a foot list, you'd want one in a chimera hiding behind your ADL issuing orders to your blob, and the other loaded with Plasma/Melta flying around in a Vendetta to drop out and kill something.

In a Mech list, you'd want both in a Chimera/vendetta loaded with Plasma/Melta. Straken is a melee character, and you don't want to be in melee with IG; especially with your warlord.

I take two Command Squads in larger games. One offensive with meltaguns, the other strategic with ground scanners.

I do exactly the same thing, except without FW stuff.

One command squad sitting in the back with a lascannon and whatever else I wanted to cram into the squad, and another with 4 meltas or plasmas in a Chimera heading forward to kill something important. Who am I kidding, I do this all the time as long as I have enough troops in my list. There's nothing better than an expendable unit with 4 meltas that can fly up the table and then order themselves to be awesome.

Paradigm and I built a 2k foot guard list that utilizes basically an infantry heavy list. It uses two command squads that sit back each with a lascannon, standard, and MoO. Each sat on opposite sides of my line and supported the platoon they were with. Each platoon comprised of 4 infantry squads each with a lascannon and a melta gun. The platoon command squads each had 4 flamers and were in the vendettas. So between all the infantry squads and CCS there were 2 MoO's and 10 lascannons and 8 melta guns. There was some heavy support as well.

Thats about the most ive ever used 2 CCS. When you buy them you are also paying for their ability to use orders so whatever situation your in just make sure you can try to give out some order.

Like others have mentioned, try to stick with the 2 different rolls of the hq. In a transport with 4 special weapons or on foot behind a lline with a heavy weapon or if they are holding infantry squads together a standard bearer is pretty important. MoO is nice for his large blast as sometimes it can do some damage.

Before you invest a lot of money and time building new units for your IG, be advised that in April, the IG are getting a new codex.
