Subject: Ketara's Pre-Adepticon Third Party Product Review Series
As some of you may already know, I'll be attending Adepticon over in the US next month. Naturally, I felt the urge to create a somewhat special force to take with me, and as such, have been ordering in items from several third party wargames manufacturers. I've had varying experiences between them, and thought that I'd put up reviews of the companies/products as I acquire them, so that you chaps can benefit from my purchasing experience. I'll be adding more reviews as we get closer to the date, which I plan to edit into this initial first post, so you might find it worthwhile to check back in a week or two as well.
So without any further preamble or ado, click on the spoiler tag to see the review!
Maxmini Siege Gun:- Complete Set
Spoiler:
Stock Photo:-
Shipping Speed:- Excellent. I had the item arrive within a week of ordering. Considering it came from abroad, I was both surprised and pleased by the speediness with which Maxmini got their stuff together and dispatched my order.
What I received:-
Casting Quality:- 10/10. Absolutely wonderful. Not a blemish, no bits of mould attached, no a single air bubble. Barely even a mould line. I cannot emphasise just how excellent the level of casting is.
Lucky Punk Sandbag Defence Line
Spoiler:
Stock Photo:-
Shipping Speed:- Quick, efficient, recorded delivery from the inestimable Col. Gravis.
What I received:-
Casting Quality:- Sadly, I wasn't quite as enthused by Lucky Punk as I was Maxmini. Whilst all the detail was there, the products were thickly coated in a soft white resin powder/dust not immediately apparent in the photos. As can be seen in my own shots as well, there's also bits of the mould attached to the product, meaning that the next batch out of the moulds will most likely have softer detail than mine. This isn't anything that I can't fix up easily with a bit of hot water and scrubbing, but it shows that they need to get their production facilities sorted out.
On the plus side, I did receive a few decals which I wasn't expecting. Always nice to get a little bonus!
MadRobot's Azog Treadbike
Spoiler:
Stock Photo:-
Shipping Speed:- About two weeks from the US to the UK. So a reasonable time period, indicating that they were dispatched within a few days of receiving the order. Quite satisfactory.
What I received:-
Casting Quality:- Crisp, clean, and detailed on the bike, and a spot of flash on the rider. Whilst the resin pour channels look like they were made out of plasticene or something, the product itself is a match for Maxmini in terms of quality. A little prep time would be required, but no complaints whatsoever.
Maxmini's BulletStorm Turret
Spoiler:
Stock Photo:-
Shipping Speed:- Proving that the first order was no one-off, I received the item within four working days. Stunning speed.
What I received:-
Casting Quality:- Flawless. It's the only way I can describe this product. Not a single mould line, no gleam of mould release, no attached rubber, nothing.
Curious Construct's Field Artillery
Spoiler:
Stock Photo:-
Shipping Speed:- About three days, recorded delivery. Efficient, speedy, and very much approved of.
What I received:-
Casting Quality:- Some minor mould lines/flash. That's about it, and I was informed that this was a slightly faulty batch along those lines when I ordered them, so absolutely no complaints or problems there, and even then only some minor prep work required.
What I can't get over is just how clever and modular this little kit actually is. It genuinely gives the GW plastic ones a run for their money. I actually managed to put it together without using any glue or blue tack whatsoever for the purposes of the photo. In terms of design, this kit really stands out as a wonderful piece in terms of intricate detail, yet incredibly basic and easy assembly.

Nice reviews. Any chance of a pic of the Maxmini artillery piece with an IG/28mm human? I'm wondering if it would make a suitable Chimera-based-Artillery stand-in.

I also recently got some different Curious Constructs field batteries, and am happy with those as well.
Thanks for the reviews and pics
Are you building Guard then Steve? So much for focusing on your bugs!

I'll have a Plog moved to the general hobby section within the next week or two. As soon as I build the Maxmini kit, you'll get to see it both on a chimera sprue, and next to 28mm models.

Nah, I got that turret to use as a counts-as SM Stalker (mounted on a Secret Weapon rapid assault 6x6 vehicle hull), for whenever Dreamforge Wave 3 delivers and I try running an SM army which won't be for awhile yet, I think.
What is the turret usable as for Guard, since it looked closest to the Stalker's turret to me?

You in a rush? I'm planning on picking up a 2nd copy of the set this summer/one of the DCM orders, but I don't need the Officer.
