Subject: Sam Adams pulls sponsorship from St. Patrick's Day Parade
BOSTON —After its support of the South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade led one Boston restaurant to boycott its brew, the Boston Beer Company – which manufactures Sam Adams – has pulled its sponsorship from Sunday's parade.
Club Café, in the South End, had announced it would not serve the company's beer because of the ongoing controversy over the exclusion of openly gay individuals from marching in the parade.

Boston Beer Company said that it is disappointed that an agreement could not be reached between the gay rights advocacy group MassEquality and parade organizers that would have allowed a group of gay veterans to march, despite pressure from Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Rep. Stephen Lynch.
"We share these sentiments with Mayor Walsh, Congressman Lynch and others and therefore we will not participate in this year's parade," the Boston Beer Company said in a statement.
"We were hopeful an agreement could be reached to allow everyone, regardless of orientation, to participate in this parade. However, given the current status of the negotiations, this may not be possible," the statement read.
The United State Supreme Court has upheld the right of the Allied War Veterans Council, the parade sponsor, to include only the participants it wants.
"As a result of this (decision) we are again proud to serve Sam Adams and Boston Beer Company Products," Club Café said in a statement on its Facebook page.
The parade organizers' phone was not answered.

Over here White Lightning was a strong and cheap brand of ( horrifically tasting) cider that was the go to choice for a generation of underage teenagers , tramps and similar sorts who do their drinking in parks, burnt out buildings etc etc.
Going back a wee bit further than that there was also a very good/strong ( MMV) "brand" or type of acid that did the rounds for a few years along side "Black micro dots" and "Bart Simpsons".
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I once permanently bleached my mate's mum's carpet by projectile vomiting all over it after a session of white lightning and hot knives. He blamed the cat for peeing on it.
Oh to be 13 again.

It's good for killing brain cells and de-greasing parts.
It's also a gakky Burt Reynold's movie from the 1970s.
Gotta love some good 'ol shine... I fill my flask with some every time I go to a special occasion. It makes for a good time.

I wasn't a big fan of Sam Adams. Then I tried their Cherry Wheat...and was done with that brewery for all time.
It wasn't a beer with an undercurrent of cherry...it tasted like someone poured some beer into a sugary cherry soda. That gak raises serious questions about their ability to brew a decent beer.
Is it that no gay person is allowed to march in the parade
or
that no organization advocating this or that political position regarding sexual orientation is allowed to march in the parade?
Whoops it's the latter:
The parade sponsor, backed by a Supreme Court ruling, has said that gays and lesbians have always been allowed to participate and that any form of political activism is banned to maintain the spirit of the parade. MassEquality rejected the condition that its group not march as openly gay veterans.
It appears that a lobby group is trying to break the rules of the parade disallowing political advocacy by running a smear campaign about the parade organizers' alleged prejudice against gay people.
Pretty shameless.
Maybe the decision makers at Sam Adams believe the parade should be a show case for political positions they support.
Or maybe they are just scared of all of the North Americans and Europeans who won't think critically about this.

They can participate as long as they don't let anyone know they are gay. I can't imagine why this would would not be welcomed with open arms by the gay community.
I would have to know what the other floats are to be able to know which side is blowing more smoke up our ass, to be honest. I'm not quite sure that merely saying "this is who I am" should constitute a lobby group any more than all the floats that say "I am Irish".
