I'm a drunk. That's probably the most straightforward way to put it. I start drinking in the morning and generally drink throughout the day until I go to bed. I work from home, I keep hours that most people would consider "weird", and that's just how I do things. I drink because I interact with a number of people that I genuinely don't like, I have crazy deadlines, AND I just love Hennessy.

A few weeks ago some friends of mine asked for some very specific bitz and components which prompted me to sift through the tubs that had been lurking in my garage. This sort of shoved me back into the hobby after a few years of being completely divorced from it. So I started learning new rules and familiarizing myself with online communities and such. Of course this also meant new models and units needed to be purchased to get my forces up to date. It was then that I discovered, much to my chagrin, that I cannot paint for gak while inebriated. I can sew by hand and with a machine... but I'm guessing that's mostly due to muscle memory as my alcoholism increased in step with my further involvement in the fashion industry... and I can draw and design just fine. But painting miniatures is damn near impossible. So in the last few weeks I've been coping with detoxing, withdrawals, and a few truly apocalyptic hangovers all while attempting to decipher the current intricacies of 6th Edition Warhammer 40k.

It's been challenging mentally, emotionally, and physically but I'm drinking less than I was... I can determine that just by observing how many bottles I'm throwing out each week. I don't think I'll ever actually stop drinking simply due to the nature of my career, the fact that I've developed a taste for it, and without me I'm pretty sure a few local bars would need to let some people go. But so long as I have stuff to paint I haven't been boozing it up as much.

I'll give this a thumbs up. Alcoholism runs in my family, and has caused quite a bit of drama throughout my lifetime.

Stay the course brother, don't let that stuff ruin your life, it's really not good for the body in large amounts.

My dad was an alcoholic who chose to 'hide' it by drinking in the bathroom attached to his bedroom. However this also meant that we had to raise ourselves because he was always in the bathroom Not that this is really related to the topic...

I tried playing Pathfinder while smoking weed but that didn't work out well at all.

"So, do please come along when we're promoting something new and need photos for the facebook page or to send to our regional manager, do please engage in our gaming when we're pushing something specific hard and need to get the little kiddies drifting past to want to come in an see what all the fuss is about. But otherwise, stay the feth out, you smelly, antisocial bastards, because we're scared you are going to say something that goes against our mantra of absolute devotion to the corporate motherland and we actually perceive any of you who've been gaming more than a year to be a hostile entity as you've been exposed to the internet and 'dangerous ideas'. If you have to use to deal with people, look into marijuana.

It's better for your body, better for your mind, and better for those that care about you. And if you grow it, it's better for your wallet.

Statistics say you don't live in a pro-marijuana state, so I won't tell you to break the law; but alcohol breaks more than laws.

I was a pos drunk for most my life. Different but similar, I used it to interact with people I don't like. It's not always the best. A slight buzz during the day is one thing, but if you're going through DT's, that's pretty serious.

Some people will vouch for total sobriety, I vouch for responsible use. But only you can tell what that is.

Its a inner strength, inner motivation, inner dedication. Its on you. Now add the "addiction" of war gaming. Well that can get out of hand last year 2013. I spent over 4K in mini's, paint, books, manual and everything related to the hobby. Its my treatment. At times that even gets bad. All things in moderation

I second the recommendation of marijuana. It truly is good for the soul, especially if you live a rather stressful life.

No addiction is good, but at my plastic crack addiction is much less damaging to my family than my dad's alcoholism

Good luck! I would recommend getting some help, but I know an addict can only do that when they do it for themselves, not because others tell them. At least you know you have a problem.

First step in any situation is noticing that there is an issue.

Best of luck with it all, I really would recommend seeing a Dr. /similar for further advice and to get things checked out.

I'm going to have to lock this now, this isn't really a suitable place for this, but keep your chin up fella.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
