When I see some kickstarters I sometimes see that CMON is supporting it.

My question is how are they supporting kickstarters? Are they supplying captial to them.

All I understand is that its a giant miniature gallery that sell some models. And how did they become a producer of miniatures?

Sorry if my questions seems stupid.

As well as being a mini gallery they are also an online retailer and a game publisher

so with their publishers hat on they will supply funding (and manufacturing and marketing experience) to game designers who have a new idea

in return they get a slice of the profits from every item sold

Now being a publisher is expensive, you have to pay out a load of cash upfront which you may never get back (if the game flops or get back only slowly (if the game does OK but is not a big hit)

so rather than only being able to afford to publish a big game every couple of years CMON has turned to KS.

They fun the new game as normal, but rather than waiting for retail they put their new games on KS part way through the design/production process and run a slick campaign which pulls in money.

This money pays off their investment in the game, and probably clears some profit for the company which means they then have the cash to spare for another new game (or big expansion of an existing game)

so rather than 1 game every couple of years they can do 3-4 per year

From what I see the kick starter support part means that CMON has pledged a high amount of their money to some kick starter they like.

The real question is why they decided to skip the many masterful historical figures pegaso has produced and stock the company's sexist Girls line.

Because history has shown them that historical figures will not sell and "sexist Girls" will.

CMON is changing, what they'll become remains to be seen.

I recall early on that they (or some of their staff) wanted to "Kill Privateer Press" but I think that was more likely the result of disgruntled ex-PP staff (of which there are many).

I think they could work on increasing their level of "professionalism" overall.

Contacting freelance sculptors for work then never returning e-mails, IMHO, isn't very professional. It would be one thing if their work wasn't up to spec, but as far as I could tell from their portfolios that wasn't the case. If the portfolio's weren't, then why contact them to begin with?

As far as Kickstarter, which ones have they done? I've backed a few but I'm not sure if CMON had been involved with them.

They also had Tentacle Bento(with SodaPopMinis), but it was pulled from kickstarter, and SPM ran it through their website.

Black Bases and Grey Plastic Forever:My quaint little hobby blog.

40k- The Kumunga Swarm (more)
Count Mortimer’s Private Security Force/Excavation Team (building)
Kabal of the Grieving Widow (less)

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both.

Ahh, OK.

I backed the Sedition Wars and Relic Knights Kickstarters.

Still anxiously awaiting my Arena Rex, Kingdom Death and Robotech miniatures!

I stand corrected. So CMoN had no involvement in the kickstarter at all ?

Out of interest, how many of those have been fulfilled to completion?

I know Zombicide S1 and Sedition Wars are complete, and know a few of the others are partially shipped at this point, but not sure if any others are yet complete?

Zombicide S2's 2nd half is currently shipping out, the first half of Rivet Wars has been delivered.. No idea about Guilds or Kaosball, but i think they've both had a 1st shipment. Wrath of Kings and Relic Knights are both 'Soon'.

Guilds shipped about 2 months early. Wrath of Kings is still on time. I didn't back Kaosball so I'm not sure.

Relic Knights is...well... Relic Knights.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And FWIW, Zombicide S2 Wave 2 was originally planned to ship out in Q1 2014, so it is also on time.

You can think of CMON as both having the extra money, and as consultants that kind of specialize in producing flashy kickstarters.

A lot of stuff they're affiliated with sign up with CMON to do the big production on the kickstarter.

Although they do make their own games.
