What units are really effective in dealing with them consistently? Fought against one using the double D weapon flamer templates in a multiplayer game and it decimated more than half the army by itself (the board was prearranged and very little LOS blocking terrain).

I was thinking 10 sternguard with combis in a drop pod & storm talons, is there anything else anyone can think of - or have a link to a discussion thread similar?

The only real answer is Centurions with grav cannons. Ideally with a divination psyker.

You could theoretically send 3-4 squads of bikers with grav guns at it.

Anything else just fails for lack of rate of fire.

Well, don't think the Necron player is stupid. He will see it coming.

Against a drop pod army, the C'tan could be held in reserve or the Necrons form some kind of bubble wrap. Also Centurii need a ride to come rather close enough.

Grav cents in a stormraven will do some serious work on Transcendent C'Tan. Just jump out and shoot it when the stormraven comes on.

Another good answer is grav/combi grav bikers. Not as much damage but they have the numbers to absorb some casualties.

A warhound is probably the most efficient answer though.

Also stronghold assault gives void shields which can help to mitigate the D weapons for a turn.

Remember that the Necron player can reserve his C'Tan to protect it from grav but you can reserve your grav even better with outflank and flyers.

Warhound is best.

A centstar could work, but you need a lot of shots to get through the 4++

3 dev cents with just the grav cannons will deal out ~4.5 wounds on average without any support. If you happen to have a nearby prescience psyker the unit you will average a dead Trans C'Tan in one turn.

You're forgetting FNP, so it's more like 4-5.

4-5 what?
Turns to kill it?
Wounds on average dealt?

Cents to kill it. If they don't get it down first turn the necron player would be very dumb to let you have another go at it.

I didn't think that war hounds were lords of war and could not be taken in escalation just apoc?

by the time I pay for cents & a storm talon I might as well bring a super heavy points wise & money wise, how do you guys think a fellblade (since its a lord of war) would work?

I play white scar bikers and my force at 1500 points is normally a khan & command squad with 4 grav, 3 grav bike squads, 3 melta bike squads, 2 storm talons ..... I think the double shot D templates + underestimating how durable it was is what really hurt.
