So there have been rumors of a Fantasy Totalwar for years, and it's been confirmed a while ago.
GW has done very little to promote the fantasy par of there stuff, do you think it will make a difference ?
Remember the huge publicity did to 40k with the DoW series.

That's not how GW does licenses. While sales might receive a slight boost for a while, GW won't do much, if any, cross promotion. They'll take their cut of the profits off the top, and call it a day.

Fantasy:Total War is not confirmed. Creative Assembly are making a fantasy game, which in all likelyhood will be a Total War game but there is a chance that it won't be. CA do make the TW games but they are also responsible for the thourougly mediocre Stormrise and other forgettable games. Aside from CA aquiring the fantasy license nothing has been heard about this for about a year.
The Warhammer game is being described as a "brand new game", implying that it is distinct from the Total War games, in a recent recruitment advert. Its only a forum post and it could still be a standard TW game but in a Warhammer skin but I think its best if people don't take a Warhammer: TW for granted at this stage. http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131441
I expect that GW does intend to use this as a vehicle to boost sales and that there will be some promotional stuff in the boxed game, certainly the other fantasy computer games that I have bought have had various stuff in them ranging from a miniature Chaos star to an Orc Warboss

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.
-Leman Russ, Meditations on Imperial Command book XVI (AKA the RT era White Dwarf Commpendium).
Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I seriously doubt GW have any plans beyond the next financial report.
A boost in sales would be nice if it happens but GW won't be interested in anything other than the quick buck they can make licencing their IP out.
Hence why there are dozen or two mobile games on the way.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Nah, it won't make a difference. I think folks are moving to fantasy anyways. As a WHFB newbie myself I'm in tune to the "just starting fantasy from 40K crowd".

Sadly GWs wider sales suggests the opposite is happening. Fantasy has been dying since 8th hit and GW haven't done anything to revive it, which is a shame because for a period there between the 8th ed rulebook release right up until the daemons release it was the closest to well balanced I have ever seen a GW rule system get.

They won't do anything with it other than a mention or two in White Dwarf. Licensed products are just a way of making a column in a quarterly report get higher. How and why it gets higher is of little concern, and you can tell that from the scatter-shot way they hand their license to random mobile developers. And also it's Creative Assembly. So expect a buggy nearly-unplayable mess when it comes out.

If it's anything like how dawn of war affected 40k I would say yes, but with creative assembly behind it... Epic doesn't do the concept justice, hopefully they will.

So long as the game is good, yeah, it will. Dawn of War got a lot of people into 40k, and there's no reason this wouldn't do the same for Fantasy. It does have a big built-in audience (hell, I don't play Fantasy but I might get it when it materializes) but so long as it's good, it'll work to boost sales.
