Ok so with the release of the new CSM supplement and the new awesome box set, I was wondering how handy a list I could get out of that box and very little else.

This is what I came up with, using a model I own (Ahriman, affectionately known round my area as “Psychic Dave”), the new box ,an extra rhino and a couple of 1k sons upgrade packs to make a Tzeentch themed list which I think works quite well. Would like to know what everyone else thinks.

HQ
Ahriman (Psychic Dave) - 230
Chaos Sorcerer (Barry) - MoT, Mastery Level 3, Terminator Armour, the Balestarr of Mannon- 175

Elites
5 Chaos Terminators- MoT, 4 Combi-Plasmas, 2 Chainfists, 1 Reaper Autocannon- 251

Troops
6 Thousand Sons- Melta Bombs, Chaos Rhino w/ Dirge Caster and Combi-Melta- 228
6 Thousand Sons- Melta Bombs, Chaos Rhino w/ Dirge Caster and Combi-Melta- 228

Fast Attack
5 Warp Talons- MoT- 190

Heavy Support
Forgefiend- extra cannon- 200

= 1502

Ok so the theory is both Dave and Barry both join the terminators. Dave uses his ability to infiltrate or out flank D3 units. So he and his terminator retinue will always do it, closing the gap quick on the enemy.
Now Dave can fire 3 witch fire powers a turn= lots of ap2 shooting, the Balestarr gets Barry access to divination, which on that terminator unit is just nasty. It also grants both Dave and Barry rerolls on all psychic tests, which turns fairly reliable casters into nailed on sure things. Which is great considering the amount or tests they’ll be taking between them (3-5 every turn)
If I roll for more than 1 unit I outflank 1k sons in their rhinos which have a nasty surprise melta weapon each.
Warp talons harass and Forgefiend blows crap up.
I feel the list has a LOT of ap2 at its disposal with surprising speed thanks to infiltrate/outflank. And quite easy to bump to 1750 with either a second Forgefiend or a 3rd troops unit.

Thoughts please dakka.

Sounds like fun so do it!!! Competitively though.. 27 models at 1500 is begging for hurt. That's near on 60 pts per model and casualties will rapidly diminish your effectiveness imo

Ahriman can only do troops if you read it again, its d3 infantry units. You don't need dirge casters on the rhinos. Warp talons are over priced for what they do. The HQ are way to costy for a 1500 point game, I would think about taking one of them out and put in cheap lord or drop both and take a dp. It also has no AA Besides a forgefeind. I would think about dropping the termis and pick up a havoc squad with autocannons and a adl. Cultist in this list would'nt be a bad idea either for extra models and more scoring units. If you want some anti tank with your rhinos bring a maulerfiend So you can drop the combi meltas.

i accept it won't be most competitive list in the world, but thats what you get basing a list around a box set i guess. i'm struggling to think of a battlion or battleforce that has only competitive choices in it for either 40k or fantasy. and yes i am not counting the Tau Fire Support Cadre in that.

so terminators aren't infantry then? does its specifically say "D3 troops choices" or D3 infantry unit"? if its the later then i would say he can.

You don't need dirge casters on the rhinos

Agreed, they were a points fill. any suggestions on what to spend 10 points on?

Whilst these are valid points, you are essentially suggesting that i don't buy the new battle box and buy loads of other stuff. the aim was to use that box due to the money saved.

well Ahriman must roll on tzeentch at least once so could get bolt, also chainfists and could swap some combi plas for combi-meltas?

Thanks.

I haven't read the whole supplement but i know about a few naughty special wargear pieces (such as the balestarr and a proper filth weapon) and the D3 special ability for possessed (move as beasts, 3+ inv or something else).

Oh shoot I was wrong for some reason or another I thought termis could not get the warlord trait for some reason. I didnt have my book close by.

If you want the talons do it up. They look sweet, but don't do much. lol

use the ten points to get extra armor so you can keep moving your rhinos closer. You will have to come up with another 10 points for the other rhino.

Drop One chain fist in the termis and give them 2 combi melta. Because you will only need one chain fist to destroy tanks.

The warp talons are lovely models.

i extra armour could be useful, but i would be looking to outflank whenever possible, so maybe run 1 with extra armour and whenever i get 2 units with daves ability outflank the unit witout first.

You're taking a fair amount of low-tier units, and I think you know that. Let me see what I can suggest without saying "TAKE 4 HELDRAKES!!11"

Don't Take the MoT on your sorcerer. CSM finally have divination, give him 3 rolls on it, not 2 and 1 on tzeentch. If you still want the 4++ save take a sigil of C

Make sure you keep your terminators out of range of assaulters, divination spells have good range, use that.

Tier aside, you really dont need the warptalons here. You need some armor saturation to keep your FF alive. Even with other armor on the board these guys dont last long, but being the only one, I don't see your FF killing a single squad in any game

I would also suggest taking your TSONS in squads of 10 if possible. Their point inefficiency comes a lot from the sorcerer, so if you can take as many rubics per squad as you can, you help deal with that.

You dont need 5 terminators with all those goodies. They are a bodyguard and their firepower is not worth their points.

My suggestion:

Ahriman (Warlord)
Chaos Sorcerer- SoC, Mastery Level 3, Terminator Armour, the Balestarr of Mannon
3 Terminators- MoT, 3 combi-plasma, 2 chainfists (barry here)
10 Thousand Sons- rhino
9 Thousand Sons- rhino (Dave here)
Forgefiend
Forgefiend

This gives you a bit of armor saturation, more troops, Anti-air and Anti-Vehicle, and only the amount of terminators you need. If you primarus div both FFs every turn they will have some crazy dmg output.

Yeah i know its not a competitive list, but its making use of everything in the new chaos force box, which is a main factor here.

well i'm really only divination but i see where you are coming from. but a roll on tzeentch can also net me another bolt for anti tank.

Make sure you keep your terminators out of range of assaulters, divination spells have good range, use that

thats the plan, its my massive mobile fire base. which just happens to be able to handle itself if anyone wants to try it.

Also as mentioned i would look at a second forgefiend to go to 1750 and beyond.

I see this as an elite army that if underestimated is going to bring some real pain. i think its solid in the hands of a good player. aim is to improve my own skills. we all learn more from our losses than our victories.

Its good, but its not a legal army in a box because of not HQ model.

Dozer blades? If they can

hmmmm, will have to check that as not worrying about DT could prove pretty useful for units that want to get into rapid fire range asap with ap3 boltguns.
