Hey folks, put together a 500 point list for the first fight in an on-going campaign. I'm relatively new to 6th Edition, and would appreciate any comments. The rules are no tanks, flyers, MCs (except HQ). Require 1 HQ, 2 Troops
Basically I've got a mobile infantry force with sentinels to support (walkers are allowed). I plan to use the sentinels as my hunter-killers for any walkers or other unforeseen contingencies, I'd rather throw a bunch of S6 shots down range rather than sink lots of points into AP weapons. I've got 4 guardsmen squads with 1 CCS and 2 PCS, so if I deploy correctly I should be able to issue one order to each squad at all times (putting a lot of 1st Rank 2nd Rank Fire down range). I opted for lots of grenade launchers because they're cheap and will 2+ wound and AP most things that aren't Space Marines. I plan to screen my command squads with the guardsmen if possible and use my two PCS to plug gaps and function as shock troops. I know a Platoon Commander with a power fist isn't too intimidating, but if I can lock a unit in combat with a guard unit I think it'll be a nice 2nd punch assault unit. Not sure about the rules, whether it's worth it to have bolt pistols with PFists or if I should just give them bolters.
If I run up against Marines, Necrons, or Tau, any tough armor units, I plan to use Move, Move, Move, to stick to cover and to engage those armies quickly, I'd rather take their AP - close combat hits than their bolter/gauss/pulse fire. Plus my PCS guys can do some damage there. If there's anything too tough, like a Hive Tyrant, I figure I'll sacrifice a PCS in cc, and get everyone else into firing position.
I considered storm troopers, ratlings, psyker squads, but in the end it was always too many points for squishy squads. Considered vets, but I think I'd rather pump the field full of guardsmen and make up for the BS with 1st2ndRankFire. Penal Legion, too many points, too squishy. Thought about a master of ordnance, but I plan to keep my army moving. Would've gotten rough riders, but don't have the models :(

10 Grenade Launcher (x2)
30 Platoon CS
2 Bolt Pistol

Looks like it will be good as you are flooding the board with models.
Personally I would drop the Sentinels and take at least one heavy weapons squad with Autocannons or....a unit of conscription.

I"d make points for Marbo. You may ask yourself, "why would I bring Marbo to a low point game, his preferred target of heavily armored units won't likely be showing up?" But imo Marbo shines the most in small point games. His demo charge will do massive damage to the squad he attacks. And that squad he crushed makes up a large percentage of the enemy army.

I could sub out for a special weapons team. Give them a demo charge and three flamers as a kamikaze unit. The first mission is a breakout, so I'd hesitate on a heavy weapons team, I can't protect them from both sides.

This sounds rather fun, like a lot of fun. Wish I had that many Guardsmen laying about.

I like the sound off that unit but it will get destroyed. If I was facing you, I'd shoot it with literally everything I have until its gone. But it then may draw a lot of fire, so maybe it could work. Either as a powerful unit or a fire magnet.
