Subject: Forces of the Ordos Xenos - Updates and Torrent of fire Interview
Re-organized my photobucket fixed links so posts are no longer in chronological order
Here is my painting log as I create my comprehensive Ordos Xenos army. It will consist of:
Deathwatch Marines(of all codexes)
Inquisition detachment
Knight Army
and imperial guard army.
Currently in the process of acquiring all the models I need. Have most of them, just waiting on the knight lancer to be introduced to have my third knight and to get some death korps as well.
This is also my first project with an airbrush so I am super excited to practice and get to work.
Spoiler:
Here is Khan
Here is my Librarian
Here is my Chapter Master
Here is my HQs with my banner

A very solid start! Always nice to see a deathwatch force coming together. I did my own attempt at a pair of truescale deathwatch squads but never finished once my RPG campaign fizzled out. I'm assuming you're using them as Codex Space Marines from the bikes and Khan?
Yeppers. Codex Space marines, with space wolves and Inquisition allies
One of the things I hope to do is the OSL lighting on the eyes visor of each of the marines. It was really easy to do with the chapter master so I might spread it out. Then again it might also be fun to keep it just to him.
It is really funny to admit that almost all of my blending with paints that I have been trying I learned how to do from bob ross

Here is how I am thinking of basing the kriegers. These are going to be my conscripts(because to hell with buying 50 kriegers to use as 3 point models)
Spoiler:
Zenethal with a black basecoat, a dark silver circle, and then a light silver spritz from the direction of the light source.
Gonna do this then maybe give them a red coat? Thoughts?

Loads of great stuff here! I love the wings on not-eaz. Can I suggest hitting up the black marines with a light grey and / or turquoise edge drybrush to make them pop? Looking forward to more!

Although you cant see it in pictures they have all been given directional highlighting.
So I directional-ly airbrushed all of them so they are much darker on one side than the other. Which can be easily seen in person. I opted to do that instead of edge highlighting.
However I just tried the typhus corrosion on the base and it is fantastic. Hit the knights feet with it as well.
Working on getting a knight army together for a one off tournament before I send the red knight to China.

All of the below is from an amazing painter, going to try his red technique on the kriegers cloaks. He sold them to me painted, and it would be wrong to repaint over it
Spoiler:
"Here's my recipe for red
BASE: Khorne Red
SHADOW- mix a little black with khorne red and paint into the deep recesses
HIGHTLIGHT: Mephiston Red
Try to wet brush the shadow and hightlights using thinner paints with multiple layers. It's time-consuming but gives a really rich red effect."
I was really suprised that he never went higher than mephiston red, but I think it was because he was painting a silver model. I will have to try it out on 1-2 models and see how it comes out. But the directional highlighting might take care of that problem for me if I do light coats.

Looking great and the zenithal highlights are much more apparent from that shot. I like your retinues, particularly how you're not precious about "classic" models but just use them in all their glory. Great stuff, I'm a sucker for a good looking acolyte
Also, I your sig.

For anti flier I have next to none. However with Asymmetrical missions and kill points not being one of them(only a secondary objective). There are no fliers I am really scared of. FMC I have quite a few grounding chances, but even then, I throw my knights in terrain, none of them have grenades they cant contest because of the 1 inch pushback and then they risk getting grounded.
At the end of the game I will have maxed out on objective points. Then I just need to kill his troops and he cant win. There are very few all air armies and if I face it, I just count it as a rough game and take it on the chin and try and play to the objectives.
When I work in the IG and am limited to two sources I am going to go IG allies and an aegis with quadgun.
Also thanks in advance for the lasguns, they are needed for my conscripts. I want to take them to a tournament this weekend but I am not going to have the models in time, and they sure as heck wont be painted.

The base on Coteaz was bothering me with how it looked. So I green stuffed some flames onto it so the base was not visible and repainted it with a combination of wet blending then drybrush highlighting. I think the combination turned out pretty well. I also put some green stuff on the front(as well as on one of my knights) since they were leaning forward.

Hey, so I bought the hydra kit and planned to make it easy to switch between the two easily. Sadly the hydra guns made that not possible. However I found a relatively simple way to make them swap-able
Spoiler:
Step One I made it as a wyvern
Step two I cut off the entire bottom part, cut down the lining on the sides of the turret and put a long brass rod in the bottom
Step Three
I took old bluetac that I couldn't use to hold down my minis anymore and shoved them in. If I had thought about it in advance I would have put it in before making the model.
And here is what it looks like with the guns put in.

In regards to the Wyvern/Hydra conversion, have you experienced any problems with the blue tack sticking to the hydra barrels (or the wire)? I tried to magnetize the hydra barrels and the cap like wyvern muzzles, but the hydra barrels had to extend into the gun too much for the wyvern muzzles to magnetize effectively. I think your way is much simpler and easier, as long as the blue-tack doesn't get all stringy and come out of the guns.

Nope. It is very deep in so it is all the way in the back. The blue tac is not strong enough to hold minis when spraying, but it is still like sticking it in putty. So the wires are still coming out clean. I only stick it all the way in the back. Not the entire length of the wire.
I think its called blue tac, but its whatever that stuff you use to hang up posters that protects the walls.
One thing I learned the hard way is keep the blue tac away from accelerant. It turns it into a gooey mess that sticks to everything. So if you are putting it in during assembly dont use accelerant on it.
Also here are the crew for the wyvern from my dreamforge guys.

Been busy but did the basecoat on my DKOK as well as another wash on the conscripts. Gonna put them up when I get home tonight. Also going to post the completed Hector Rex who looks fantastic. Need to fix the top of his shield a bit though but other than that he is 100% good to go.

Mr.Omega wrote: Nice, I like the army in the last post. How did you give all the Eisernkern Conscripts Lasguns though, wouldn't you need just as many Cadian kits?
Rex looks great, what paints did you use for the shield's metal border and the gold?
Rex was done by someone else so I have no idea. The eisenkern lasguns were given to me by alarmingrick here on dakka so it worked out nicely.

Long time no update, had to move, as well as the launch of a new edition. But the summer tournament season is starting which means lots of painting to do. I have four weekends of tournaments in a row, ending with a two day GT so I have lots of painting that needs to be done. I have everything table top ready for my tournament this weekend, I will upload some more pictures of those tomorrow.
So here is my post move hobby room. Still a org nightmare until I get a paint stand but I like it
Spoiler:
Here are my Rhinos
Spoiler:
Here are my razorbacks: The conversion started out as a place holder until I get a real turret, but then it kinda grew on me.....
Spoiler:
I have the following table top - 3x land speeder storms, 30 bolter scouts and I need to work on the rest of my armies includeing 10 devastators, 3 lascannon cents, a second thunderfire, and a skyshield.
All in all I am excited for the coming weeks. I won my last two tournaments, lets see if I can keep the streak going.
