Hi everyone! Long time reader, first time poster here.

I'm looking for some constructive advice on my current list. I'm playing Tau/SM (I've been playing 40k for only a couple of months now (coming from fantasy).
My gaming group consists of only 4 people atm(me, IG player, Necron player, Orc-Tyranid player).
We are currently starting a 1850p mini tournament, and I'm trying to build a list that not too crazy:

Tau:
Commander, C&C, MSSS, Iridium suit, 1xfusion (I just feel like I need to have something on him just in case..)
Riptide - IA, TL Fusion, EWO, VT
3xCrisis - each with a MP and PR
9xFire Warriors
9xFire Warriors
5xPathfinders
3xBroadsides - TLHYMP, TLSMS, EWO + 3xMissile drones

Allied Space Marines:

Chapter Master, bike, storm shield, PF, Art Armour
Dreadnought - MM, heavy flamer, drop pod
5xBikes, 2xgrav guns
10xTacMarines - 1xplasma gun, 1xlascannon
Thunderfire cannon
Aegis defence line with Quadgun

Total:1849p

My opponents are fairly predictable in what they bring:

The IG player will always bring 2xvendettas & tanks, Necron player always has a few Annihilation barges, 2xnightschytes, some warriors & immortals. Orc/Nid player got some crazy stuff going on with a million lootas behind Aegis Walls when playing orcs, with nids its usually a couple of flyrants & lots of other shooting units.
Everyone always brings defence lines & we play with a lot of terrain.

My plan is to take out a tank or flame a big unit on turn 1 with my Dreadnought (5/5 games it has been a huge success). Buffmander go with Crisis suits doing their thing, Riptide & bikes with CM advance on a flank while the rest of the army stays back & shoots.

I will probably combat squad the tacticals so that 5 of them mans the Quad gun, while the las/plas guys stays back & shoots something, then runs over & takes an objective if they can.

I have 33 scoring bodies in this list, so Im not too worried about holding objectives.

I want to use a list that has a little of everything & also to not piss off my opponents (like a bike list, full drop pod list, riptide spam++).
What do you guys think of it so far? Playable?

Thanks for your time

Ok; for a semi-competitive environment you have a very solid list. You've got all the tools. BUT, you need to tweak a few things.

1) Replace the Fusion on the commander with a PENchip. He really doesn't need a gun. And don't attach him to the crisis team where his T5 would get majority T'd down to 4. One Leman Russ blast and there goes warlord. Attach him to the Riptide. He becomes T6; and makes the Ion Accelerator Ignore cover, twin-linked and whatever PEN buff you need.

2) Speaking of the crisis team , never mix weapons on a single suit. If you want a mix of plasma and fusion, do it like this:

Two suits with x2 PR; One suit with x2 Fusion and target lock. This way, you never waste firepower. The S8 AP1 can shoot at armor, and the plasma are free to blaze away at 2+'s.

3) Either lose some fat like the missile drones and buy a rhino for the tac squad or trade them for scouts if they're going to remain static.

If you take care of these things, you'll give your buddies fits but not by being unfair. It's a solid TAC list with very little shenanigans. Perfect for a semi-competitive environment.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

Thanks for the advice, I will make a few tweaks to the list

Btw, I thought drones on the broadside unit was a good and cheap way to give them some more wounds to soak up incoming fire?

Also, would it be better to exchange the buffmander with a cheap hq and add Tigurius for the ability to buff units at range?

Missile drones are good; and if you swap to scouts you'll have the points for them anyway. But if you keep the tacs they need a ride; just as much for protection as mobility. Helldrakes happen. Absent the legitimate concern of the proliferation if cover-ignoring weaponry, scouts synergize better with an aegis build anyway.

As for Tiggy, I don't think he's as effective for your list as he is in the deathstar Tau/SM builds such as GravStar and FarSun bomb. Stick with the buffmander and turn your Riptide into a beast.
