All three of these formations actually sounds entirely useful. I am impressed.
I really like the mayhem pack. Sounds like it would cause real, ahem, mayhem.

I'm very impressed with this whole release. They took all the units I really like, but which were gak, and made them "good enough" or better. Thats all I really ask from them.

I think the new rules are fantastic... really could see them shining now. My personal favourite is the Helcult. I will definately be using those in my armies from now on as they work well with most of my builds.

The murderpack could be pretty useful if you built a list around it. 20 twin-linked reaper autocannon shots and 10 krak missiles will pretty much evaporate absolutely anything the pack targets. The only *real* issue with that is that you're immobilized and you have to shoot at the closest enemy unit. So, that pretty much dooms the pack to be a defensive/zoning unit for a lot of the time. Still not bad at all though. It's 550 points for the Helbrutes+reapercannons (I probably wouldn't bother with the missiles, 20 Strength 7 shots is overkill against most units in the game). Even in a 1000 point list, that leaves enough points for some culstists and a juggerlord. In a 1500+ point game, 550 points is nothing. Oh, I forgot the crazed rules. Well, I guess the only other problem is that, truly, no one is ever going to shoot at the pack lol. 10 twin-linked autocannon shots is still kind okay though. The Mayhem pack isn't bad either; 6 multi-melta shots first turn is pretty hilarious, and because they're not in a squadron, you can fire each 'brutes wad at a different target. Helcult is probably my least favorite. A single Helbrute doesn't put out enough dakka to justify the tax of two cult troops for a 3+ cover save, all three combined is too expensive for it to just sit on an objective, and it's too slow to really march up the board.

Those 2 DV brutes I got can finally find some use! Plonk some nilla brutes near a vehicle and watch stuff get smashed.

For 100pts more you can get a turbo laser armed warhound and 20 str 7 are all awesome until you have to shot something with av 14.

That is true but the secondary benefit is that your Cultists will be fearless, even after the Helbrute dies.

It should be 525 points for your example I think.

Helbrutes are 105 points iirc, +5 for the reaper cannons for 110 points per model. 110*5=550

For the Murderpack, the crazed rules only apply to those who get crazed markers (ie, the ones that took glancing/penetrating hits), but you can choose what result applies. So they dont ALL get doubletap, just the ones that take hits.
Though the nice thing about being in a vehicle squad is that you can shuffle them around to preserve hullpoints, which should give the unit some pretty serious durability if positioned right.
Also, weirdly RAW, but the fire-frenzy crazy result states that the model becomes immobilized until the end of the turn. If a vehicle in a squadron is immobilized, they can break off into a new unit if the rest of the squad moves out of coherency with it.
sooooo..... as the battle progresses, you can splinter off damaged hellbrutes into their own units if you wanted to, I guess?

I felt it was an interesting read. Makes you feel a little bad for those who are crammed into those sarcophagi. Automatically Appended Next Post: As for the review proper, I felt it was a touch short and it missed at least one detail that I'm aware of: when the 'Brute in the Helcult dies the Cultists lose Fearless but gain Zealot (Fearless + Hatred).
Otherwise not bad.
