I recently acquired a large lot of 2nd edition Grots and would like to put them to good use. I have also acquired a few Boyz from the same starter set. I only want to use them for Kill Team, and this is the list I came up with:

Ork Kill Team Roster
Grot Squad 120
-30 Grots, 3 Runtherds

Grot Squad 80
-20 Grots, 2 Runtherds

TOTAL: 200

55 models can't be easy to deal with in 200 point games. I am not sure what I want to do for my Specialists, although I assume using the Runtherds is my best bet? What rules should I use?

I honestly don't think I could personally handle 55 of anything in kill team. It may work, it may not, but regardless I think you'll have a good laugh at it.

And that's all I'm looking to do - have a good laugh! Some kill teams will steamroll this, I'm sure. Others won't be able to deal with it!

Runtherds can glance a Rhino on the charge!

I run 20 shoota boys and 5 lootas for my kill team. Last tournament I went 4-1, my only loss was to a 5 wraith list who won the tournament.

Coming from playing a high model count Tyranid army (prior to the new codex) in kill team I can tell you that if your games have any time limit you may want to reconsider because taking terrain checks on each individual model out of 50~ is going to get really old really fast.

Might want to add run moves, consolidation moves, and hell, even goddamn shooting rolls to that list From.

Huh, I hadn't considered that. We don't have Kill Team tournaments or anything like that, so any games I play with this list will not be timed. Rolling 1 Grot at a time for shooting will take a considerable amount of time.

I do think that think taking Boyz would work a lot better. The Grot blasta's very short range, combined with T2 means that they'll die in droves to anything without being able to retaliate. Sure you could just bury the objective under a mountain of bodies, but it doesn't seem like that reliable (or interesting) of a way to play kill teams.

Grotz are pretty iffy in Kill Team since you're more or less forced to delegate the Specialist stuff to the Runtherds and they can't fully exploit their benefits given their lack of gear (besides shock prods which is pretty limited). Also with Ld 5 it means you will rout pretty quickly if anyone manages to focus fire your runtherds. Also, as previous people have said, you're really not going to do much but march forwards and die which is pretty boring.

Personally for me having a mix of fast elements like deffkoptas and long-ranged dakka like Lootas seem to be a good combo to give you access to objectives while also having fire support.

Are we still using old kill team rules? Or did I miss the update?

GW changed Kill Teams... again... over the winter. But your store or group may use whatever they want.

you automatically lose points for using the trite gamer-isms: balanced, meta, Mat Ward, etc.
