In the new Dataslate they state that when the Angels returned to Caliban the Astartes who resisted Luther had repainted their armor green. This makes Cypher always being depicted in green another layer in the ambiguity of the character. (Even though it seems to be a retcon excusing them from forgetting about the original scheme when they first painted the Cypher figure. I like the elements it adds to the story.)

I wish I knew this before I painted his armour black. WELP.
