Hello,
I had a demo game of Saga tonight, really enjoyed the game and was just wondering if there was any interest in it amongst the Dakka community, I played Vikings which is the army I plan on going for.
I've ordered a box of the griping beast plastic Viking hirdmen.
The flgs that I go to is holding a big saga tournament in June so I've got a lot of practice to get in before then

Hello from across the pond. I picked up Saga on recent trip and I've found that I'm interested in the game as well. I'm making an anglo-dane army with Wargames Factory models (bad idea, I should of picked up the Gripping beast warband), I think I'm going to run a few demo games in a couple of months

Very cool game, I'm painting up a force of Anglo Danes at the moment (about 3.5 pts completed).

Range of miniatures are very nice as well, I've used a mix of the Gripping Beast plastics and their metal range, very reasonably priced as well.

I was playing against Anglo danes last night they were a pretty good force, i think i probably just rushed into the combats a bit to much and didn't pay enough attention to the battle board.
The range of models is really nice, i've added some Viking berzerkers to my shopping list they look awsome, They do tend to die rather fast however!

I've been building a Viking force for SAGA in 15mm recently; not had a chance to play yet but I know a few at the FLGS play on occasion; they say it works really well

I run a Pagan Rus army. All hail Mother Winter!

The system's a great one. Unlike with most games, you don't need to worry about creating big complicated lists, and worry about how you're going to spend that last twenty points. And the similarity of the units across all groups means that the focus is primarily on how you use the battle board.

That was one of the things I enjoyed about it you can put a list together in about 5 minutes, I've got another game next Thursday at my club so I'm going to pay a bit more attention to the board instead of rushing in to combat without thinking.

5 points of Vikings, 4 points of Anglo-Danes, and 4 points of Normans here.

It's a great game that doesn't require much list building (need to work on my Normans, though. More horses and archers).

I've 5 points each of Vikings, Normans, Anglo-Danes, Irish and Norse-Gaels.
Also have 5 points of Byzantines plus Cataphracts and Varangian Guard for them too

I'm seriously considering going to the tournament in June myself

It should be a good tournament, the bag of stuff you get just for attending has a lot of exclusive bits in it. The venues great aswell. I've just started putting my force together tonight I've managed to get a unit of hearth guard and a unit of warriors done.

Where abouts is this tournament that people keep mentioning?

Could someone please post some details or a link?

Saga and hail Caesar, (as well as the odd dux bellorum game,) are my go to games. Very fun. I love the time period.

Saga looks great and I have ears good things about it, can't afford another period / genre ATM though.

I've been considering this, since I keep hearing good things about it. It also helps that the models are pretty affordable and I already have several boxes of GP and WGF Vikings and Saxons sitting around.

Can anyone point me to a good intro website or perhaps a youtube game demo?

I quite enjoyed reading this chap's blog, its got lots of different and interesting articles on it

If you already have some boxes of the GBP miniatures then you probably have more or less everything you need TBH!

That's a pretty awesome blog, I've picked up a box of the plastic' Viking hirdmen and I've got enough for a 6point warband. I've ordered a set of the metal berzerkers because what's cooler than half naked axe wielding wearing wolf pelts?

You can get them actually although I can think of things I'd rather do than paint the privates on a 28mm model!

Isn't a single griping beast box enough t play?

Yeah they are enough to play but so far I've only spent £20 and I have enough to make a 6 point warband where as the Gripping beast box would have cost £55 for a 6 point warband. I just wanted to get a Warband done as cheap and quick as possible and the plastic box seemed to be the best way.

That gives you a basic 4 point warband. If you want to run a 6 point warband, or just want a little more variety in the troops that you're using, then you'll need some additional troops. But yes, the starters will provide enough to actually play a real game (as opposed to the "get a taste of it" starters that most companies provide).

Hm, anyone know of a "free shipping internationally" place that does Conquest Games' stuff?

My local store does free worldwide shipping on orders over £30 aslong as it doesnt exceed the 2kg Airmail limit. http://www.firestormgames.co.uk/
Edit: They're also normally happy to get stuff in for you just drop the an email and ask.

Thanks Lewis,
I've been ordering on and off from Firestorm for a couple of years now (since Maelstrom went under) and they have always had great service. I didn't see Conquest Games on their webstore, though. It'll be a few weeks before I can afford to order anything, perhaps you could see if they have any in stock when you're next there? In case they have stuff that's not on the webstore.

No problem.I'll be down there tomorrow so will have a look, which box in particular were you looking for?

Thanks mate!
I was looking at a box each of Conquest Games' plastic Norman Infantry and Norman Knights.

And actually, Perry MIniatures WWII German DAK box. They stock Perry on the website, but don't seem to have these. Perfect for 28mm Bolt Action.

I'll take a look for you, I know they sell the DAK boxes as I've bought them myself
