Newer to fantasy and ive now started looking more into the clan moulder units (giant rats) and this has brought up a few questions ive been trying to find an answer to.

1: Master moulders / packmasters - Both of these are described as leading the units (rats and ogres)
I assume packmasters always lead from the back anyway, but a master moulder is a character (that cannot leave the unit)
Would this mean he has to fight in the front rank of the unit, rather than at the back like a regular packmaster?

2: Skweel gnawtooth - He is treated as a character, so again, would he have to lead from the front?

3: Throt the unclean - Slightly different here since it says he counts as a packmaster, so he fights from the back?

4: Chieftains and warlords - Can they join units of giant rats and rat ogres atall?
If so, im guessing front rank aswell?

This is mainly just to clear a few things up as i dont want decent characters being in the front ranks as the lack of armour makes them die too easily.
They can run away from a challenge, but any dedicated combat unit will kill them without having to challenge.
I just need a good kick in the right direction please as to how these units are lead by the specific characters.

1. Master moulders must lead from the front. The FAQ covers that one I believe. As they are champions, they count as command.

Packmasters are not characters, and are just regular part of the unit. As such, they can be placed wherever you want them. Most people put them in the back because of their whips. but nothing says they HAVE to be there.

2. Skweel, being a character, must be in the front rank.

3. Throt counts as a packmaster for the purpose of preventing Stupidity in Rat Ogres or Frenzy in Giant Rats. As a character, he must be in the front rank.

4. Yup, front rank. There is a strange exception, however: Command must always be in the front rank, and characters normally get pushed to the second rank and must Make Way! to fight in combat. (Brettonians are an exception where Command always gets pushed to the second rank.)

So if you have a unit with enough Master Moulders and/or a Master Bred Rat Ogre, you could theoretically run with a small enough frontage so as to push characters into the second rank.

I'm not saying it would be a GOOD idea, but it could theoretically be done.

Edit: Note, Skweel and Throt could both be pushed to the second rank using this same method.
