Subject: Skaven Warlord: how to make em dead killy

Infiltrating Broodlord

Obviously the best option is just to give him a Fellblade and let er rip
But on a more serious note, I'm trying to pick some weapons that'll make my Warlord hit as hard as he takes hits. It's easy to make him dead ard with Tali of Preservations + Skalm or Warpstone Armor + Shield + Dawnstone, but how do we make him right killy?
My two options that I'm liking a lot right now are:
1) Sword of Striking + Poisoned attacks which if I'm not mistaken allows you to auto wound on 5s and if he's hanging out with a banner that gives him rerolls (plague monk plague banner anyone?) This can be absolutely brutal. I can see this turning into a lot of saves against well armored foes though unfortunately.
2) Weeping Blade. Armor Pierce and Multi wounds seems pretty strong to me for the price.
I can't decide between the two since they're the same cost and I wanted to know if anyone else had any other brilliant ideas I wasn't seeing.

Well, with 1, you are incorrect. You need to roll a natural 6 to get the poison effect.
That said, it is very much what you are fighting. The Weeping Blade is no good against massed normal guys, but great against characters and multi-wound models.

Problem with option 1 is that Poisoned Attacks don't work with Magic Weapons.

If you want a really killy hero/lord I would with an assassin they are pretty solid.
They get a natural 4+ ward save and poisoned attacks so no need for an upgrade for that. 6WS 3A then just give him a weeping blade for the D3 wounds. Ends up being a 150 point hero which is probably better than a warlord in my opinion and you can put him in any unit and he is hidden until you reveal him so you just charge in a clanrats unit and BAM pull out the assassin and challenge the BSB or hero/lord that is in the unit you just charged which is a pretty good tactic in my opinion.

There's really no good way to make a Warlord killy short of putting him on a Bonebreaker and giving him a Fellblade. Anything else falls short against anyone else's killiy characters.

Pretty much. He's there to stop everyone leaving when somebody sneezes, not to do much damage.

Warlord(s) on bonebreaker are where it's at for damage.
You can run them dirt cheap (naked with halberd) just for the added combat punch or you can kit them out for all around bad assery.
A friend plays Skaven exclusively and he throws a few warlords on the table now and then...
Warlord on Bone Breaker with warlock engineered weapon, 4+ ward, dragon helm, heavy armor and shield...
Gives you 5 str 5 attacks, higher toughness (the mount), a 2+ save, 4++ ward, 2+ ward vs. flaming attacks, and the mounts muscle to throw into a fight besides.
Still cheap enough to add a Grey Seer as well!
For straight up killiness it has to be fellblade though... on Bone Breaker or the Storm Vermin palanquin thing

#1 doesn't work because the Scavenge Pile says Poisoned Attacks don't work on Magic Weapons, and also because "+1 to Hit" doesn't effect Poison anyway.
#2...eh. The Weeping Blade is a decent buy. But it's conditional.
I don't see how shield + Warpstone Armour + Dawnstone + war-litter isn't fairly killy, actually. I went up against some Witch Elves who thought they'd take out my General before they hacked through my Stormvermin. 24 Poisoned attacks means 7 S4 auto hits after my saves. Then 4.7 more hits after I attack.
Granted, it's not very effective at S6 and up, but I've usually found that those are the units I want to bog down with Slaves and such anyway.
I want my Warlord to survive, so he can pass on his Ld7. The above build is a satisfying middle-ground for me.

There were people on the Underempire with theories about how to equip a Warlord to make him dead machine killy.
Basically, you'd have him take the job of the gutter runners, as a war machine hunter.
You'd give him a war-litter, an enchanted shield and a talisman of preservation and skitterleap him to the enemy's back lines, then have him run around wrecking the enemy war machines.
Not what you were thinking of for dead killy, I'm sure, but I think you'll always come up short if you're trying to make a Skaven Warlord able to match a VC warlord in a one on one.

That's not a bad idea. Cheap characters have a lot of uses as lone units. I just usually see them on some kind of cavalry mount. But Skitterleap makes up for that in many cases.
My Warlord always does remarkably well against Vampire Lords...he just has a block of Slaves between him and the vamp.
