Yesterday we had our first go at the Battlegroup dries of rules and here is the resulting AAR:

Nice report! I was hoping to see the JS-2 go up against the KT, but alas, t'was not to be.
Also, whether intentional or not, this made me chuckle.

Absolutely wonderful shots, and a really nice report - really enjoyed reading it! Poor little Luchs :(
How have you found the Battlegroup games by the way? I'm used to Flames of War, but the reports of this game always makes it sound a lot more involved with less abstraction. Is that a fair summary, and how have you found it playing at that scale rather than 20mm?
Also, whether intentional or not, this made me chuckle.
The poster's flag is German, is the legislation there for showing the swastika there different perhaps?

Thanks guys! Glad you liked it.
I personally would have loved to see the JS-2 go against the Königstiger, but it seems that was not to be!
The photo editing was indeed intentional. That mini has a swastika on the armband and SS runes on his helmet. Both symbols are prohibited under German law. While the server for the blog is in the US and the blog runs over a US domain, I could still be prosecuted for publishing them since I am in Germany. I am allowed to have the mini, but not to display it in public. That is the way it is.
Regarding the rules. Well I have been using a set of rules for over a decade now. I wanted something that is realistic and gives you a feel for period combat. Since then the group I play with has changed a lot and the people I play with these days want a set of rules that plays fast without looking things up on complicated tables. So far we have the feeling, that the rules play fast, with minimalist if tables and I found that they are realistic and seem to reward period tactics. So far we are all happy!
We were happy with the way they played in 28mm, but I think we may end up extending some of the ranges a bit. Since they were written for 15mm to 20mm and have no required they should work fine for FoW armies.

Yes, it is a shame. Some companies out there are running such aggressive marketing that they virtually overshadow many great sets of rules like Battlegroup.

Nice battle report, have to say though your braver than me rolling in with a JS-2 with no resupply, three shots is pretty low.
So noticed you had a couple of rounds in which the arty spotting went a bit wrong, do you ever use the preregistered target points? i never go into battle without a couple of those. Saves he officer having to give the order, and well with Russians arty spotters are not really in abundance anyway.
Lovely models though, and nice report. Also echoing what others have said its nice to see Battlegroup rules getting more love.

Thanks for the comments Salad Fingers!
I have to say, the JS-2 was a complete both up on my part. This was only my second game and the first where I created the forces and I simply forgot looking at the ammo. It was only when we were adding the info to the rosters on Monday morning that I went "how little ammo does he have?". You live, you learn.
About the same goes for the pre-registered target spots. I deliberately left those out. This being my second game and Martins first, I wanted us to get used to the mechanics of the game, so I did not want anything that allowed us to skip too many steps.
