Hello, okay so basically iv been wanting to get into 40k for a while and now I finally can although idk where to start D: but im taking a interest in the space marines like the black Templars, legion of the damned or the space sharks (not sure if their in the game since iv only really been looking at the fluff) but yeah, just want to know how they play and pick my army, a happy middle between close combat and shooty shooty so yeah.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hello and welcome!

I say you should always go with the army that appeals the most to you aesthetically. That being said, you can't really field a full army of Legion of the Damned, despite there being a LoTD "codex." They are a unit that can be added to any space marine army.

I would definitely recommend running Black Templars as a Black Templar player myself. They have all the shooty stuff the space marine book has with all the cool close combat fluff, and some interesting rules for close combat. But the neat thing about Space Marines is that you could run any of the chapter tactics with one army, no matter how they are painted. So you could make-up your own chapter and pick the chapter tactics you want to use.
