Hello all! I'm making this thread to ask the people of Dakkadakka, what type would like to learn from painting tutorials as I'm about to set out and start making my own on youtube. What is the thing most painters are looking to achieve when painting there mins.

Speed?
To improve?
Different techniques?

Any and all feedback would be great, as I don't just want to spam youtube with videos that are already there.

I mainly use an airbrush for most of work, so more brush techniques?

Instead of showing people how to paint a certain model focus more on techniques.
Eg: paint a full model in single colour NMM
Full model in TMM etc...

Tutorials that focus on techniques to achieve an effect where the model is merely a canvas would be the most useful. Solid techniques are useful regardless of what army or even company you're painting minis/models from. You don't do a wet blend differently on a Citadel model than you would one from Privateer, but "How to paint an Ultramarine the exact same way I paint mine" is only relevant if I'm painting Ultramarines and want them to look just like yours.

Yeah technics would be good.

How to dry brush properly

How to paint flowing cloth

How to give depth to a model that's mostly black

I definitely agree on techniques. I generally don't bother watching videos on painting a specific model, Especially if I will probably never paint one.

If you've got interesting or unusual techniques to share that would be rad, also I like seeing alternative methods or materials used to do the same thing and their pros and cons.

Thank you all very much, for your input. I think I will start, from the basics like dry brushing, how to highlight, how to blend. Plus I have some of my own techniques that I don't believe are on youtube anywhere on how to paint a very weathered mini super fast using oil paints.

But again thank you all so much for your input and I will still be taking more on

I'll echo above, just techniques, start off with simplest, like highlighting, both ways, and then move up towards nmm, and gems, freehand would be quite nice too!!

I would very much appreciate this. I still cant get the hang of dry brushing so would appreciate a good video on it. If you can it may be a good idea to structure some kind of playlist that starts with beginner techniques and works its way up to more advanced techniques.

do you mean like this yellow? and by brush or airbrush?

Sorry if it seems like I'm plugging myself, which I kinda am but I really want to start doing things that are going to actually help people, and not just be another person who makes youtube vidoes and pumps out the same old stuff.
Any tips, on filming and editing would be great!

O and recording, should I do voice over's? explaining what I'm doing or text? as I would most likely, just be using a normal mic to start with as it's all I currently have.

Blending & freehand. Been painting mini's for just over 20 years and the're the two things I'd like to be able to do

"Brothers! I have seen the future and it is grim. We shall still be fighting our fallen brothers 10,000 years from now, but we shall not be remembered. All records of us will be lost and forgotten, all knowleage of our existence denied and our name classed as heracy! We shall lose our home and spend eternety drifting through space as vengeful spectres, smiting any enermy of mankind foolish enough to stand in our way. Let these facts fuel your hate! Show no fear, show no mercy and show no remorse! We are death incarnate! We are fury given form! We are the brothers of the 2nd legion!" Primarch of the 2nd addressing his troops on the steps of the emperor's palace just before the siege during the horus heracy.

Ok sweet. I have a few tutorials lined up this is what it's looking like so far.

- How to Dry Brush

- How to over brush

- How to highlight

- How to pick colours

- Brush control

- Easy Wash Technique " A way to shade, without having to re
highlight"

- How to weather with oil paints "basic"

- How to Paint Yellow "Imperial fist yellow kinda thing"

- How to airbrush 101 these would lead to many videos

I was thinking, about showing how to thin paints, correctly, looking at common issues people will face with airbrushing, maybe some trouble shooting like. My airbrush has allot of overspray, and I will say the most common reasons and how to fix it.

let me know what you think.

How to thin paints and problems people have with over under thinning would be great. I have no intrest in airbrush tutorials due to not owning or affording one but I am sure they will be useful to many.

Ok cool, should be nice and easy. Will add them to the list at first my videos are going to be not the best, but I do have a really expensive camera already, just more so the audio and editing side won't be very good but I will get to work on them all and report back to this thread
