I really wasn't sure where to put this thread, so I put it here :p

On Saturday I got my lip pierced, which was cool. I never thought how it might effect my ability to paint though. As I went to paint last night for the first time since I was pierced, I went to point my brush with my mouth but stopped myself. I know with food I have to clean it after I eat and stuff but never thought about the paints. I am not sure if even the small amount of traces of paint that get in my mouth from pointing the brush with my tongue would be bad for the piercing. I tried painting without doing it but I was having trouble, most likely because I am so used to how I normally paint.

So anyways, I am not sure if real small traces of paint would be bad for the piercing. I am scared to paint because of this and was wondering what you guys think.

Ask a professional.

Getting paint or other hobby material in the hole will at best be irritating. But, IMO, so long as the piercing is clean and tidy you shouldn't have much of an issue.

Drag your brush across a damp paper towel while twirling it instead of using your mouth.

I have a far better idea. Realize you made an incredibly dumbass mistake and quit puncturing yourself.

I had this thought when i had my tongue done (lost a bet) but to be honest, seems fine to me and never had any issues with it.
Just keep it clean like you usually would.

No, see, now the op can take the piercing out and have a ready made "brush hole". Won't even have to open their mouth to point it.

Seriously though I highly doubt that any traces of paint will mess with the piercing, especially after it's healed up. Just clean it when you regularly would and don't worry about the paint.

I am going to the place I got it done. The owner there used to paint miniatures I believe, so she might actually have some good advice for me.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Except the guy saying to not get piercings, I wasn't asking your opinion on my piercing, but on how paint may effect the healing process.

If the piercing is not yet healed, you should treat it like any other wound.

Once a piercing has healed properly there is little more danger than there would be from normal activities involving that area of the body. You've got another declivity that can trap particles and so on, but frankly the human body is full of such crevices already, like between your teeth.

Generally you need to take care of mouth piercings a bit more than other body parts due to how many germs there are, so erring on the side of caution up to the point that the piercing no longer produces lymph is a sensible idea (when it stops producing lymph is generally when you know it's healed).

Also, woo! piercings!
