So sad. He was one of my favorite wrestlers. Sad to see him go but I'm glad he got to be inducted and see the cheering crowd one more time before he died.
From the depths of the earth, murderous earthquakes make the ground tremble. The sky opens up with ear-shattering claps of thunder as torrential rains drenches the land and floods sweep everything towards annihilation. There is no place to run. There is no place to hide. All hope of salvation has been swallowed up, burned out, and swept away. All is lost. You will feel the pain. You will feel the power. You will feel the destruction. Load the spaceship with the rocket fuel. Load it with the Ultimate Warrior, as it makes its way toward Parts Unknown.
RIP Ultimate Warrior. You brought so much fun, laughs, and memories to my Brother and I, our friends, and family.
Just heard this too. Makes the promo he cut on RAW rather prophetic/creepy now...
“Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them bleed deeper in something larger than life, than his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized .. by the storytellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever.”
O.W.N. Forever!

Such a shame, he was my favorite wrestler as a kid. I had a poster of him on my wall:

It can't be a coincidence he spoke these words just days before his death. I assume he must have been ill and knew he didnt have long left.

TMZ is reporting he collapsed and was pronounced dead when he got to the hospital. I'm guessing heart attack/stroke. Years of steroid (and possibly other drug) abuse caused heart disease. 18 years out of the spotlight, and a sudden thrust back into it can cause a lot of adrenaline and anxiety. Maybe the stress from this past weekend was just too much for his already damaged heart to handle.
Really too bad, the guy (finally) has a proper DVD come out, is given a lucrative legends contract and a 5 year deal as an ambassador. I'm utterly stunned, mainly as we'd JUST seen him on Wrestlemania and RAW the nights before this and he looked fine. That, or there was something he wasn't telling Vince.

I believe Macho Man went from a Heart Attack as well. He was only a few years older than Warrior.
I don’t know if he was on Steroids, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I Remember seeing him as Bonesaw in Spiderman and thinking he must have been taking something, he was bulker in that film than he had been during most of his wrestling career.
The long term consequences of Steroid seem to be manifesting themselves amongst wrestlers of that generation.
"And if we've learnt anything over the past 1000 mile retreat it's that Russian agriculture is in dire need of mechanisation!"
Ashley Matthew of Kayfabe Kickout found in 2013 that 46.6% of deceased male wrestlers who worked for WWE between 1977 to 2012 died due to heart complications. "This is a substantial difference in comparison to 25.6 percent of the general male population in America who have died of heart disease from 2000-2008," reads the report.
As for female wrestlers, between 1996 and 2010, 75% of deceased wrestlers died from heart disease compared to 27.3% of the general population between 2000 and 2010.
Macho Man Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, Paul Bearer and Eddie Guerrero (an active wrestler at the time) all died of heart failure. The list goes on: Umaga, Fabulous Moolah, Yokozuna, Big Boss Man, British Bulldog, Gorilla Monsoon, Brian Pillman, Mabel. In 2010 Lance Cade also died of heart complications aged just 29.
Looks like there is a pretty clear link between wrestling and an early death from heart failure.

It's not 100% foolproof (if you believe what Scott Steiner says...), but for the most part WWE's full time performers are not on any kind of steroids and have not been for a while.

Loved this guy as a kid. Whenever my friends and I would play WWF at school I was always The Ultimate Warrior. I think I'll raise a glass in his honor tonight as thanks for keeping the 5 year old me so entertained.
- TMZ spoke to people that were with The Ultimate Warrior during WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans and they note that he looked to be in rough shape all weekend.
They noted that he appeared to be in constant pain, sweaty and looked very uncomfortable. It was apparent to the people around him that something was seriously off. People also took notice when Warrior looked weak after doing his signature rope shake on RAW.
One of their sources said, "We all felt like he looked like he was going to blow a gasket. It was pretty easy to see."
The Ultimate Warrior was always one half of my dream tag team on Wrestlefest, with Earthquake. Many quarters were dropped on the road to the showdown vs the Legion of Doom.
We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

Authorities in Phoenix have confirmed former pro wrestler The Ultimate Warrior died of cardiovascular disease.
The wrestler died at his Arizona hotel on 8 April, days after being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
A Maricopa County spokeswoman delivered the findings after an autopsy was conducted by the county Medical Examiner's Office.
The 54-year-old, whose birth name was James Hellwig, appeared at Monday Night Raw on 7 April and WrestleMania 30.
Police added that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Cardiovascular disease includes all the diseases of the heart and circulation including coronary heart disease (angina and heart attack), heart failure, congenital heart disease and stroke.
It is also known as heart and circulatory disease.
WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) published a statement following his death which read: "WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior."
It added: "Warrior is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters."
Other high profile names posted messages of condolence on social media when they heard the news.
"Saddened to announce the passing of the Ultimate Warrior. Icon and friend. My sympathy to his wife Dana and his daughters," wrote Triple H on Twitter.
"Heartbroken. My sincerest condolences go out to The Warrior's family," said Daniel Bryan.
He added: "Seeing how much he loved his daughters and his wife this weekend makes it all the more heartbreaking.
"The Ultimate Warrior was my favourite as a kid, and getting to speak to him this weekend was one of my favourite moments. He was so nice to me."
The Ultimate Warrior started his World Wrestling Entertainment career in 1987 and soon became one of its most high profile stars.
"We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans," said the WWE statement.
"WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior's family, friends and fans," it added.
WrestleMania 30, which took place in New Orleans on Sunday 6 April, saw the return of Hulk Hogan to presenting duties and the end of the Undertaker's winning streak.
According to official figures, "attendance was a sold-out crowd of 75,167, with guests from all 50 [US] states and 37 countries".
