I thought it would be fun(ny) to make a thread where we swap tales about the dice gods just absolutely trolling you resulting in unexpected turns in matches.

I'll start off an example.

I once spectators on an ultrasmurfs vs tau game. Smurfs had a chaplain and captain as their hq's bubble wrapped in cc units.
in a charge on the fire warrior gunline that poor poor tau player fell victim to the dice gods. Failing almost every shot of overwatch. A combined gunline of three full fire warriors killed exactly 1 assault marine. Needless to say the tau player wanted to grab his codex and smash them all with it.

5th edition tau codex, have a stealth team of 3 suits and 6 drones jump around, all three suits manage to fail thier dangerous terrain tests and die, while all the drones makes it, but die due to lack of controllers.

That's quite a brutal blow in a 1000 point game, it was slightly over 15% of my army right there.

Was playing a friendly game against my space marine friend with a land raider, and my 5 man necron warrior squad had nothing else to shoot at so took 5 non rapid fire shots at the raider and wrecked it from full health.

It was funny but it kinda ruined the game.

My PK Nob once killed a DP in a challenge... and lived

My friend plays Chaos and was running Typhus with his daemon weapon. It was pretty once sided (two hell drakes) vs DA with Flakk ML. I was losing a lot of units and he was starting to become too confident. I told him not to tick off the dice gods but he didn't listen. So he declares a challenge with Typhus against my Interrogator Chaplin. I manage to wound him but the kicker was when he rolled for his daemon weapon and got 1. He gets upset and rolls for invol save and fails that as well. Feeling like a nice guy state that he probably gets feel no pain and he rolls and fails that as well. He's super upset but I win that. Next turn he tries again with his warlord against my Sargent. He manages to kill my Sargent and rolls on the boon table. Chaos Spawn. Extra laughs.
Other note worthy highlights:
- 3 games in a row mishap on deep strike Typhus (which is why he now calls it 'Risky business Typhus') and I get to roll on the mishap chart and place him at the farthest edge I can usually behind a mountain or a large pile of difficult terrain.
- Mysterious objectives turning out to be re-roll missed shots for his zombies
- Deep striking into an objective and finding it rigged to explode
- Deep striking in front of my brother's wraithguard and forgetting the S: 10 weapons
- Getting his hell drake from reserve only for it to kill one marine with meteor decent, get shot down due to Aegis Defense Line and explode onto of HIS scoring units (same game as the wraithguard btw)

There are many more but that's all I got for now.

I swear these dice are loaded against me.

Playing my Chaos I charged my cultist's into CC and rolled all under 3 to hit with 20 cultists.....but rolled double 6 to run away!!!!

In 5-th edition i faced Draigo-pallies with my slugga+choppa boy'z greentide. That was an annoying 'all different gear for each guy' loadout of pallies. I shot and charged with everyone simultaniously and inflicter 54 wounds total. He saved all the damn 54 wounds! Rolling separately!

Had a situation last night where I was Eldar playing Dark Angels. Other player had an attack bike with melta outflank in the rear of one wave serpent, another bike come around the rear on another serpent, had a flyer get shot down and scatter into the rear of my 3rd serpent Lastly, 4 additional melta shots were aimed at the first serpent.

Of the 6 melta shots, 4 missed and the remaining 2 rolled a 1 and a 2 for damage on the front arc (not in 1/2 range). The flyer rolled a 2 for pen against the rear armor.

Samael then took 4 wounds on his armor save and rolled 3 1's and a 2.

Needless to say, the player surrendered as we both laughed our asses off lol.

I've had games where even the opponent would be like: "wow, today just isn't your day."

Yep.

Last game my friends Predator got immobilized on a rock. My medusa was right in front of it. Every turn from turn 1-6 he shot it and rolled a 2 for penetration. Every single turn.

My Plasma Vets were firing at its flank. I hit and penetrated every turn, 2-5. Every turn he passed his cover save.

It was a 600 point per side game. SO I had 300 points and my team mate had the rest. They split their points between 3 people so the amount of points wasted in that game was huge.

Lost a tournament match last week playing daemons, partially because I had horrible rolling for pretty much the entire game (the other part was poor deployment choices). Was failing buckets of 5+ saves, failed a difficult terrain charge at a critical juncture in the game, Fateweaver failed at least a third of his psychic tests, missed with a flickering fire on a 2+ roll at a critical juncture in the game, and the turn immediately after he died, (top of game 5), I rolled the -1 to invuln saves result on the warpstorm table. My opponent was feeling pretty bad for me, though that didn't stop him from tabling me at the bottom of turn 5.

Just one of those games...

i got some custom thousand sons dice made, tzeentch blue and gold, the icons, use them all the time, bad roll happens and shout "GOD WILLS IT"

even had them turn on my daemon prince, drops a 1 for his daemon weapon, got beaten to death by 5 choppa ork boyz in one round of combat... worst rolls ever. failed re rolled armor saves, didnt do 1 wound to the boys just died... damn you tzeenth and black mace :(

Yeah, so for some reason I'm the only Ork player who uses a SAG on my Big Mek. Every time I use it it's the same of two results.

I roll 2D6 for STR and it's either a really low number, ie 5, or 9-12.

But I know when I see the low number it's not going to scatter. And when I do get a vehicle killing roll it scatters 11-12".

Lol, it's insane I still use it.

But then the last time I used it I did get a roll of 12 on strength and only scattered 2 inches and took the Riptide I was aiming at off the table. Suck it reroll everything!

My Riptide charges a techmarine Thunderfire cannon. Techmarine overwatches with the servo-harness plasma cutter.

Rolls a 1, gets hot.

Hey, it's twin linked! rolls another 1.

Techmarine has a 2+ armor save!

Rolls a third 1.

Techmarine gunner dies, thunderfire cannon gun goes with him, and my Riptide is left standing there with nothing to charge.

First time I have ever seen a unit die to "negative overwatch"

Not so bad as some, but my land speeder being downed by one ork, with a pistol of all things....

We had a game against Dragiowing, we fired everything we had into the paladin squad and it was all for nothing, missiles, lascannons everything you can think of and he tanked it all.

Finally we realise a combat squad is within bolter range. Four shots, four hits, four wounds four ones. Dragio falls over dead, we laugh.

Meltagun and combi melta firing at marbo from the last two members of a csm squad, one hits and rolls 1 to wound.

Marbo then kills the champ in a challenge and catches the other marine in a sweeping advance.

I did have a single lascannon from my havoc squad shoot and explode a leman russ in one shot earlier in the game though.

My wraithknight was killed by 7 wounding poison shots from friggin 5 kabalite warriors in a immobilised venom(yeah that's all the wraithknight did to it) and yes out of the 7 wounds he caused I failed 6 of them

Hammernators deepstriked next to plague marines who fired 6 bolter shots. 5 shots hit, 5 shots wounded, 5 on armour save. 3 bolters killed 225 points
OR my iron arm librarian on bike moves across crater, fails his dangerous terrain test and armor save, 'meh one wound IH chapter tactics i will heal next turn' turboboost, another dangerous terrain test and armor save failed.... T8 character tripped from his bike 2 times and died, i wanted to remove my lower jaw and bludgeon myself to death with it

I had a game last weekend were we played a Emperor's will mission on a daemon world witht the rules from crusade of fire, first my team seizes the initiative before rolling on the daemonic hazards table, we get trechery of tzeentch forcing one unit to take a Ld test and if they fail our team controlls it for the entire turn. So we pick an assault squad with a melta gun and melta bomb, the unit fails it ld test and immediatly explode their team's land raider. Later in the game the opposing team is leading with both sides having their own objective when we roll for daemonic hazards. We get a power that allows one us to pick one unit, either friendly or enemy and remove it from play before deep striking it back on the board. So we pick the only scoring unit left, a tactical squad, and bring it down right in front of 30 shoota boyz who proceed to kill them. In the last turn the same unit of shoota boyz shoot at Sicarius nad his full strenght command squad, roll well above average, and proceed to kill of the entire unit including Sicarius who failed three 2+ saves out of 8. After the battle the opposing team was less than amused since they hadn't gotten anything worthwile from the dark gods while we had gotten to realy good rolls.

The game where the only thing keeping him in the lead was a single TAC marine on a 3 point objective. Crimson Hunter Exarch turns 2 bright lances and 2 star cannons on him and promptly rolls 6 1's to hit. And of course the game then ends.

Flying an Aconite, Hemlock and Hellebore through a blast marker to take the last 2 points off his Emperor. And.... 3 6's.

At last year's Redstone Rumble, I was playing my FMC Daemonic Flying Circus against a GK player with 3 DreadKnights. All together those 3 denied around 21 out of 23-24 psychic screams and puppet masters :S and whats worse, fate weaver falls on turn 3 and takes a single wound fails his 2+ invul.....TWICE and gets force weaponed by said Dread Knight.....still managed to pull out a minor win but damn.

Playing a game against imperial guard, already rolling an unnatural number of ones and twos on the 3+ rolls which are pretty standard for AS.
Get my seraphim with melta bombs in close combat with an AV10 vehicle. At that point, I spoke the poorly chosen words: "I'll get a penetrating hit on anything but a double one."

...I don't think I need to tell the rest of the story.

I played a combo game against an Eldar player and a Daemons player.

turn two i charge out of a Land Raider and smash a WS with Hammernators. Following turn the eldar players wrathguard (who were in the WS) try to D-vacuum my guys, passed like 12 3++ saves, i charge that group, didn't take a wound on overwatch. I proceed to kill them all.

Later that game my TDA SS Librarian charges Skarbrand, and I have to take 7 3++ saves or be ID'd, saved them all. I end up hiting and wounding only once, and he ends up failing the 5++. I then turned on my Force Weapon and erased Skarbrand from existance.

They stil managed to beat me, but boy were they shocked by their dice rolls.

*My worst case*

- My Thunderfire Cannon fires at Grey Knights Strike Squad
- 12 hits
- 2+ to wound... *rolls*
- 7x 1's
- I crawl under the gaming table to think about my life

*My best case*

- Playing a sparring match against a friend with Ultramarines (I was playing with IF detachment)
- Having no other tank killing units in the table than disco-Pred (all lascannons), and desperately wanna at least scratch that approaching Land Raider with Chronus
- Predator moves, and fires the TL lascannon full BS, the rest goes with snap shots
- First sponson, miss
- Twin-linked lascannon rolls 1, and 2 on reroll, so screw that too
- Second sponson... SIX!
- Six to pen the Land Raider... *rolls* SIX!
- Result? *rolls* SIX MOFOS!
- Epilogue: Land Raider just blew up with a bloody lucky shot that happens once in a lifetime, leaving my friend's face with a priceless expression, while other mates are laughting loudly, spreading high fives.

1000 pt game, thousand sons vs necrons. I have two ML 3 sorcerers and I get 4 perils in 1 turn. This happened about 3 weekends in a row, against different armies.

Best case I've had was when the dice gods trolled my friend. I drop podded some Sternguard in front of his lines. On his turn he had a command squad with 4 SS and Plasma Guns in rapid fire range, only 2 hits and 2 1s, one of his guys dies and those 2 hits? snake eyes to wound

Let me set the scene. Dark Eldar vs Grey Knigths, things had been going really bad for me as most of my Vehicles were smoking ruins, Interceptors with Incinerators were roasting a unit a turn and he had 2 5 man squads of four psycannons each with a prescience inquisitor hiding out of line of sights, but could still shoot things, cause Gay knights.

He had got a little to close to my Dias of Destruction (yes i took one, it was a fun game ) and Vect jumped out by himself, leaving his Trueborn behind and he charged some Interceptors. They got 6 wounds on over watch and 3 from Incinerator, made all 2++ saves. Hit all with all attacks, wounded with all attacks, left one guy alive. Killed him Next turn. Ran up to the building hiding the Psycannon squads. He then shot me with something close to 20 strength 7 shots with prescience, made every. single. save. Inquisior took a pot shot with his Bolt Pistol and broke my shadowfield! I charged in next turn, he got 5 hits with psycannons on overwatch and 4 wounds. About to take him off when i was reminded of the ghost plate, Vect made 4 6++'s! Slaughtered Squad. Next turn threw his abyssal grenade, taking out 4 of the next squad, charged in and slaughtered his other squad and Warlord to.
