So, I've recently come into a pile of DE bits. Included among them are all the bits from a unit of scourges save for the wings. I've been looking around online, and Scourge wings are going to be too expensive for me, I think. I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative, and it occurs to me that I don't have to use the normal styles of wings, and I've started expanding my search to include different types.

What kinds of wings do you guys think would look good on some Scourges?

Spoiler:

Bug wings

Fairy wings

I found some fairy wings on Reaper for less than two bucks a set, and the doll crafting community seems to think that I can make some ooak fairy or insect wings for fairly cheap. If anyone knows where to get nice looking wings on the cheap, please let me know!

Bitsnkits wants about $2.25 per pair for feathered wings, or $3 a pair for bat wings. I think Hoard o Bits is cheaper, but honestly Reaper is even cheaper than that.

Went fairy.

Wings arrived today. The top right set is a little smallish, but all in all they look pretty good.

Will do! Gotta drill 'em and pin 'em and scare up all the spare bits to build the damn things, but it'll happen.

Finally done. Not painted, but assembled.

I do NOT recommend using the fairy wings. Just buy some from Horde-o-bits or something. They just require too damn much fiddling to really be worth it. (That could just be my throbbing finger talking--pin vise wounds tend to make it cranky...)

Here these mangy bastards are. Look good? I think so. Worth the effort? God no. Do NOT do this. I spent about ten times the amount of effort putting these together as the plastic scourge kit, and spent almost as much money as I would have just buying the wings off ebay. Not quite as much, but I think I'd have paid the difference just to not have as many injuries as this caused. Kind of fitting that I've wounded myself more with my Dark Eldar than my other four armies combined.

Er, so is it oddly appropriate that my music playlist swapped into tori amos - raining blood when I opened up this post?

Looks good. How are you planning to paint them?

Lol, by giving someone a wad of cash and telling them to make them look like evil fairies.

I don't think I'm going to paint my DE myself. It's just too much work for too little reward.

Sorry to hear about the hassle and injuries, but you at least have a unique looking unit!

I too have suffered when building Dark Eldar. Every single Raider I have built (7 so far) resulted in some kind of fleshy trauma and blood being spilled. Every. Single. One.

QFT! My first Ravager wound up with me burying a shock prow in my palm. So painful.
