So, I've recently come into a pile of DE bits. Included among them are all the bits from a unit of scourges save for the wings. I've been looking around online, and Scourge wings are going to be too expensive for me, I think. I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative, and it occurs to me that I don't have to use the normal styles of wings, and I've started expanding my search to include different types.
What kinds of wings do you guys think would look good on some Scourges?
Spoiler:
Bug wings
Fairy wings
I found some fairy wings on Reaper for less than two bucks a set, and the doll crafting community seems to think that I can make some ooak fairy or insect wings for fairly cheap. If anyone knows where to get nice looking wings on the cheap, please let me know!
I personally love the DE scourge kit wings, infact I am using them for my swooping hawks. They are lovely and dynamic, its a shame you didn't get any with your DE bits.
If your any good with green stuff, a little wire and some green stuff would give you some lovely wings.
But in terms of cheap, I have yet to find anything cheap that had the aesthetic I like.

I think that the wackiness of Dark Eldar bioengineering is so varied that literally any type of wing would work as long as they look appropriately dark and sinister. Personally, I'm a fan of the bat wings.
I like the sculpts for the fiary but couldnt see it on a scourge of the dark underworld, The feathered ones are pretty legit imho but may be able to find the stock wings for em on bitsnkits
Bitsnkits wants about $2.25 per pair for feathered wings, or $3 a pair for bat wings. I think Hoard o Bits is cheaper, but honestly Reaper is even cheaper than that.

this is true, and reaper makes amazing casts. I'll have to check out hoard for sure, cause ive been using bitsnkits forever and do agree they are expensive
I do NOT recommend using the fairy wings. Just buy some from Horde-o-bits or something. They just require too damn much fiddling to really be worth it. (That could just be my throbbing finger talking--pin vise wounds tend to make it cranky...)
Here these mangy bastards are. Look good? I think so. Worth the effort? God no. Do NOT do this. I spent about ten times the amount of effort putting these together as the plastic scourge kit, and spent almost as much money as I would have just buying the wings off ebay. Not quite as much, but I think I'd have paid the difference just to not have as many injuries as this caused. Kind of fitting that I've wounded myself more with my Dark Eldar than my other four armies combined.
They look fantastic, but I will heed what you said about it not being worth it. Also a good call with the painting, I stopped painting my DE because they were so frustrating to do, I'm not good enough with edge highlighting for it to not look like garbage.
Sorry to hear about the hassle and injuries, but you at least have a unique looking unit!
I too have suffered when building Dark Eldar. Every single Raider I have built (7 so far) resulted in some kind of fleshy trauma and blood being spilled. Every. Single. One.

QFT! My first Ravager wound up with me burying a shock prow in my palm. So painful.

You know, we swear at the shop that this is the reason my fiance's models play so well. He bleeds for just about every one of the things when he's putting them together. The DE demand blood.

Hello, I know this is an ancient thread, but I am also planning on adding the same reaper wings to my scourges. How did you manage to get the wings on their backs? Could you tell me what steps you had to take? Thanks a lot, you are the only guy I've seen so far do this.
You're better off sending a private message (PM-ing) the guy who did this, rather than reviving an old thread (threadomancy), which is frowned on here. Thanks, and good luck figuring it out
